Love laughing x
Great listen especially if you are struggling to self motivate or having trouble believing in your own self worth. Will listen to this audio book again and be seeking out other books by this author.
Graphic Designer. Writer. Festival Bar Owner. Trekkie. Music Promoter. Terrible Multitasker. Lover of fantasy, urban fantasy and crime.
There's just something wonderful about Liz Gilbert. This was my first encounter with her writings having initially dismissed Eat. Pray. Love. as (and I know I'll get stick for this) "a bit too girly". However, discovering her at Big Magic is an excellent, hype free (relatively) way to engage with her writings.
I've found them pretty inspirational and am currently writing a business plan for an arts project I'd always dreamed about. Whether it's a success or not will be anyone's guess, but I'm more comfortable with fear being along for the trip as a result of this book. It's allowed me to accept that you need to take risks to be happy when you live a creative life.
Having the book read by Liz really enhances the overall experience, after all, who better to perform the piece than the person who wrote it?
In short, listen to this book. It has the potential to be life changing!
It's a great book - super inspiring and helpful in uncovering lost or dormant creativity. Gilbert is also a fabulous narrator - makes you feel as if she's speaking straight to you! Couldn't "put it down", as it were.
You can tell that this has been authentically written from the heart and soul and uses the authors life experiences to connect with all of US the creative beings out there. A joy to listen to and I'll be listening again. soon
Absolutely loved this audio book, I listened to it all in just two days I was addicted and quite sad it had to end. She tells inspirational stories from her own life and others in a very lighthearted way and she had me belly laughing at somethings... As soon as i finished listening to this, I signed a contract with inspiration when she came knocking (you will have to read to know what I mean) Definitely recommend this book to anyone who struggles to get their creative juices flowing and experiences mind block from time to time. She just tell it as it is!
Recommended to all my students! A courageous author and self narrated.
Worth more than one listen!
This is the best thing I have ever read. I literally didn't drop it start to finish, highly recommended for any creative creature, which is like everyone of us right.?
"Loved it, the second half is my fave "
Lovely book will be listening to this one again. Made me rethink my mindset around photography.
A loveable self-help book. Relevance surpasses the beautiful narration of the author. Blissfully satisfied listening!
"Why did I wait so long to get it!"
I always thought that this book is for people working in creative fields (artists, writers etc.) and I should not read it because I am a doctor and it will just add to my misery reminding me that I didn't have enough courage to go for a creative field when I had the opportunity. But, I was wrong. This book is for all people who want a little creativity in their life. I actually started creating while reading and loved every bit of it. It inspired me to keep going regardless of my boring life filled with medicine books.
It also changed my perception of creativity needing to support me financially if I want to take it seriously. In fact, I don't even need to take it 'seriously' otherwise it won't come to me. Brilliant! Thank you!
The author's voice is calm and soothing which totally adds to the magic!
"Big magic, a discovery we all need to make. "
It rightly puts out the fear/obstacles or let's say questions we all face in any creative process, but what is more interesting is to know that answers to all the queries lies somewhere within and surprisingly we all are aware of it.
"Good to start"
Average book. Not going with it's title. Good to making habit for listening. I hope next books are may be more interesting.
"Absolutely love it!"
really enjoy this book .. i was very entertained and having Elizabeth Gilbert as narrator was the best .
I love Elizabeth Gilbert's writing style, and to hear the author reading the words that she penned herself is a real treat!
This book is life changing to any artist, be it writing, painting, dancing, whatever. It is a must-read!
"Both practical and inspiring"
This book was SO good on so many levels.
First of all, I love her voice and I love her creative bend coupled with such practicality.
I really think everyone should buy/ listen to it. It's not just for creatives although more so for them.
Are we not all creatives? I decided while listening that while I've resisted the adjective of creative for many years now (it always comes up as a strength in my psychometric tests) because it seemed too airy-fairy for me, I actually am creative. Her kind of "work hard and you may get those moments of Big Magic happening. Work hard anyway" does it for me.
Reminded me of photography where I spend 20 minutes taking pics of things and when I'm editing I see 2 - 3 that catch my breath, and I think, "wow, was that me?" (those are my moments of Big Magic)
You don't have to be crazy or poor to be creative. And no one can tell you if you are or not.
In fact, I'm sure you already are.
