Summary

"Have you ever wanted to double your daily word counts? Do you feel like you're crawling through your story, struggling for each paragraph? Would you like to get more words every day without increasing the time you spend writing or sacrificing quality? It's not impossible; it's not even that hard. This is the story of how, with a few simple changes, I boosted my daily writing from 2,000 words to over 10k a day and how you can, too."

Expanding on the author's highly successful process for doubling daily word counts, this audiobook - a combination of reworked blog posts and new material - offers practical writing advice for anyone who's ever longed to increase their daily writing output. In addition to updated information for Rachel's popular 2k to 10k writing efficiency process, five-step plotting method, and easy editing tips, this new book includes chapters on creating characters that write their own stories, story structure, and learning to love your daily writing. Full of easy-to-follow, practical advice from a commercial author who doesn't eat if she doesn't produce good books on a regular basis, 2K to 10K focuses on not just writing faster but writing better and having more fun while you do it.

This revised edition includes updates and corrections for all chapters!

Practical, inspirational

This book has several great nuggets to take away. Rachel puts her finger on the issues that affect productivity, including some unexpected but very valid points. There were several eye-openers, but one big one was her triangle metric. It resonated with me at so many levels, making me understand why my writing is at times agonisingly slow, depressing, and laborious. I feel inspired to tackle my next writing project with speed and gusto.

Educational

A great narration of a writing journey that any author should want to check out. It looses a star because I felt there were too many musical interludes and they could have been a few less of them.

SUPERB

Having written 20 published novels, some of them relatively fast, I listened to this with professional interest. By almost any criterion you chose it is superb. The first part, on writing fast, nails it perfectly. Do what Rachel Aaron suggests and you will write significantly faster. It’s not just ‘how’ it’s ‘why’ as well. A brilliant analysis. The second part, about structure and so forth, is Hollywood-type story based (eg 3-Act Structuring etc) which is fine for relatively simple story-telling. Nothing wrong with that and a necessary prelude for any writer learning their craft. For ‘necessary’ read ‘essential’. You can’t put up shelves that look good and stay up until you’ve learnt to use a level and power drill. Do not be tempted to dismiss RA’s book because of some low reviews of her actual fiction or because you’re not into her kind of fantasy fiction, which I personally am not. This is shared experience at its wisest and best by a greatly gifted teacher. Really, really, good and a pleasure to have listened to. Would it have saved me blood, sweat and tears had I known these principles and techniques when I first started my career? Yes! Will I follow through with the books I’m now working on. Yes, I already am. An absolute revelation.

Short but mighty

More punch packed into this than most longer works I've read. A must-listen for anyone who wants to improve their writing process
