Summary
A dynamic remastering of the original BBC Radio 4 full-cast serial - Fit the First to Fit the Sixth - which spawned a phenomenal hitchhiking legend.
The original series of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, remastered by Dirk Maggs (director of the Tertiary, Quandary and Quintessential Phases) to give a full, vibrant sound, now with Philip Pope’s version of the familiar theme tune and specially re-recorded announcements by John Marsh.
Join Arthur Dent, Ford Prefect, Trillian, Zaphod Beeblebrox and Marvin the Paranoid Android in their first series of adventures as they witness the destruction of Earth to make way for a hyperspace bypass, stumble upon the ancient planet of Magrathea, dine at the Restaurant at the End of the Universe and seek an answer to the Ultimate Question of Life, the Universe and everything.
Peter Jones, Simon Jones, Geoffrey McGivern, Mark Wing-Davey, Susan Sheridan, Stephen Moore and a full supporting cast star in these BBC Radio 4 episodes.
A special 55-minute bonus programme, Douglas Adams's Guide to the Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, explores the genesis of the radio series and its incredible success, with contributions from the original cast and production team.

Classic audio drama
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This book /audio drama is a sci-fi cult classic. I've been a fan since it was originally released many moons ago. I still listen to it and love the subtle and sometimes not so subtle digs at politicians/ bureaucrats/ philosophers and not forgetting telephone sanitizers. Great colourful characters such as Marvin and Zaphod. If you love audio dramas I would rate this as one of the best.

Totally Awesome
From the first few notes of the iconic theme tune to the post-credits jokes this series is sublime. The cast are perfect and the glorious plot is sheer genius.
I cannot praise this enough.
If you have only read the books (or watched the TV or film) then I promise this will be a joyful experience.
If you have never experienced at first hand the glory of the Hitchhiker's Guide then I can think of no better place to start than this.

as fresh 30th time round as the 1st.
Having first read this book in about 1980 I've owned the cassettes, watched the film, listened to the radio now the audio book series. It's as funny, philosophical and pan dimensionally chucklesome as any hilariously constructed sci-fi comedy would ever be. Douglas Adams and his masterpiece live on.

So long and thanks for all the fish!
This is just as fantastic as it was when I listened to it growing up. It is the original format so was designed to be heard. I can reccomend the tv adaptation and the book as well but this definitely takes the cheese. Brilliantly funny, a great insight into people as a whole and changed the face of radio and sci-fi. Definitely listen to it!

Ultimate Classic
So pleased to see this on Audible. Ingenious writing, wry and witty. Only reason performances gets 4 stars is I never liked Zaphod’s voice and though it pains me to say it some of the Radiophonic Workshop’s audio effects have dated and do occasionally grate (no, I’m not asking for a ‘remastered’ version). Marvin is easily the best sci-fi character of all time and if you really do want to know the answer to life, the universe and everything, where else are you going to go?

Great BBC original radio recordings!
I love this series so it is good to add it to my collection! However, remember to change the audio quality of the downloads to high, as the small file size setting is too much that it does ruin some moments.

I totally enjoyed hearing this again. I
I have the original radio show on a reel-to-reel, somewhere but no means to play it. It was so great to hear it again. Like visiting old friends to talk of old stories. Smashing
