Paul Hilton stars as the reluctant and unthanked hero protecting mankind from an enemy they resist believing in. In these four episodes, Pilgrim is summoned to help retrieve a dragon's egg stolen by the outlaw Faerie, Puck; meets Noreen, whose son has been in a strange coma for the past seven years; tries to stay out of the clutches of powerful City banker and occult collector Haddonfield; and finds himself on a mission to save Joseph of Arimathea. William Palmer, the cursed medieval pilgrim is the central character in this original series. The mixture of modern day matters and fairy folklore are blended seamlessly together. Each episode has its own story, and also follows a story arch which continues throughout the subsequent series.
With an excellent script, acting, and production values; this series will appeal to people who enjoy a good drama, as well as those who love fantasy fiction.
This is the first of three series. Audible, where are the rest?
Thoughtful and compassionate, dark and humourous, these supernatural tales set in the present day reach back through time and myth to create a rich and potent drama. Lovely acting from all the cast, too.
Yes - it's superb
All are interesting characters
The Pilgrim series by Sebastian Baczkiewicz is ABSOLUTELY SUPERB - but please, please, please Audible, give us series 3 - it is missing! Thanks,
I heard one of these on radio and when it was published through Audible, I thought "great" and downloaded it. I wasn't disappointed.
Great storylines, good characterisations and I hope there will be another series.
Cat lover heavy metal lady. Bolton, UK.
Possibly, depending on what it was. Possibly this one just wasn't what I was expecting.
The idea of the Pilgrim being unable to die and wanting to be freed from this "curse" is interesting, and the mix of old legend and myth with very down to earth modern day characters is appealing. I felt that the character of Pilgrim isn't explored enough though. I enjoyed some stories more than others.
Narrators were fine except I felt that the actual main character of Pilgrim was done in a slightly "dull" way. I felt that perhaps more character should have come through. He has a bit of an annoying habit of just flatly repeating one word or two as a question after people have told him something. As in "Pilgrim, I saw a strange green man in the garden today." "Green man?" Once I noticed this, I found that it happened a lot!
Not really what I was expecting.
I think the reason I enjoyed this series so much was because it there wasn't anything that came to mind to compare it with.
I came across this series while just browsing and thought I would give it a try and have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. I am pleased to see that there are other series and have just down loaded Series 2.
This production is brilliant. The stories are interesting and different and I just love the audio soundeffects that accompany it. This is my kinda bag. If you like Tolkien books this will be your thing (just set in modern times).
Sadly I have not read the books by Sebastian Baczkiewicz, but the Audio books are very well dramatised and detailed.
The concept/plot for the main character is not unique in the comic book/ fantasy realm, but the principle of a lost or trapped soul is viewed from a slightly twisted view. The end game is not to carry out revenge on all who have damned Pilgrim along the way but just to be free.
Although the audio book does not have narration, the main part depicts the scenes with great detail and allows the listener to build up an image of the scene very clearly.
Time and tide waits for no man, except Pilgrim.........
I would not hesitate to recommend this to a friend or even an enemy. It's an excellent series brilliantly acted and brilliantly written. Based in the here and now, you very quickly realise that living alongside the everyday mundane people you meet may just be a malevolent spirit ready to bring the world to its knees.
All of the characters are good and bring different things to the table.
My favourite bit of casting is of Jamie Foreman as Puck.
Once you start listening to this, you won't stop. You'll be hungry for more.
This series will make you look at the world differently and make it more magical.
