Jade Calhoun was never fond of her empath abilities. Now she's discovered she has another gift she'd rather not unwrap - magic. But when her mentor, Bea, becomes gravely ill and insists Jade's the only one who can help, she's forced to embrace her witchy side.
It's too bad she spent a decade shunning the magical community and never learned to harness her powers. Because time's run out. A trapped spirit has revealed a clue to Jade's long-lost mother. The resident angel has gone rogue and disappeared with Jade's boyfriend, Kane. And if that wasn't enough, her ex appears to be possessed.
To save any of them, Jade will need to find a way to control her inner white witch - without succumbing to black magic. Otherwise, she'll lose everything - including her soul.

"Okay book to pass the drive"
No, the premise of the book is good but I often found myself yelling at the radio because the main character started to bother me. In the book the main character, Jade, is trying to find her mother, save her loved ones and stop an all powerful demon. As she tries to do all this, I believe she looses focus on what the real problem is and spends most of her time being stubborn and not listening to anyone who is trying to help. She is so stuck in her ways that it ruins it for me. She doesn't ever listen to anyone.
Also, it has some mystery thrown in there to help to retain the reader. As the book goes on, the reader begins to figure stuff out but Jade just doesn't see things because of her stubbornness. It was very annoying that she didn't start to figure stuff out sooner. I know part of the book was her "finding herself" and learning "who she is" but come on, how long does that take!
I read the first one and it was okay.
Traci does a great job with all of her characters. I think Bea was my favorite. You really felt the characteristics of the character come through while she was speaking.
Yes, write this review.
I did not care for the book but I did like the narration. I would read something done by Traci again.
In Book two of the Jade Calhoun Series, Jade gets caught up in some nasty witch business, a love triangle, and a resurrection! Ingredients like this are a sure bet for a great read, right?!
Jade Calhoun is an empath and is dating a dream walker by the name of Kane. We also have some witches, demons, and angels as well, and they will come in due time. One day some old framed portraits are brought into Kane's club, and they turn out to be haunted. Of course Jade is the one to discover this with a blood curdling psychic experience when she touches one of the frames. As it turns out, three sisters' souls were trapped in the frames, and are desperate to get out! The only person Jade could think of that can help release them is her witch friend Bea. Bea is a very powerful witch and the leader of a coven. When Bea instructs Jade that she must help her because only a white witch's powers will do, Jade reluctantly does so due to her lack of believing she is in fact a white witch. Will Jade pull her head out of her ass in time to fulfill her destiny, or will she fail everyone and kill them all?
News flash, Jade is kindovanahole! So the story starts out with Jade connecting with the spirits trapped in the picture frames. She gets all caught up in what the spirit is telling her and her own selfish desires. After repeatedly denying she is in fact a white witch, and that she wants nothing to do with anything magical, she continues to jump through hoops, behind her boyfriends back to get all up in the middle of trying to free the souls. Can we be anymore confused? Jade says she doesn’t want to get in the middle of magics, and denies being a witch, but yet she dates a dream walker, and has a mother who was a witch and in a coven. When her Aunt Gwen appears, ( which guess what, Gwen is an intuitive psychic) she continues to deny being a witch, even though she has been using her witchy powers with Bea's help up until then. Now I understand the main character Jade was conflicted because of the trauma she experienced as a child, but come on! Oh, I'm going to use my powers, but act like that's normal and not magical, and get mad when you call me a witch. I feel like I'm talking to my mother-in-law now! WTF is going on? Anyone who knows my mother-in-law knows she's bat sheet crazy! And don't even get me started on the ending!
Please let me clarify a few things before you go... 1) I bought the audiobook, this is not a free copy I received in exchange for a review. 2) I listened to the first book and loved it! 3) This is my personal interpretation, and opinion of the book. 4) Because of having listened to the first book, I did have expectations going in, and was therefore expecting it to be great, or at the least really good. I don't know what happened, but in this book Jade came off as very whiny, indecisive, and obnoxious to me personally. I could not stand her, or her constant bratty attitude. I was so looking forward to this series, because of the awesomeness of Jade's powers and her hook up with Kane and his power too, but unfortunately because of this experience, I will not continue on with this series. I am so utterly disappointed :(
Traci Odom narrates the hell out of this story! I have previous experience with Traci from other books, and I absolutely love her! She delivered another great performance in this book. She could read the phone book to me and make it interesting. Great job Traci!
"Witches and the fallen"
Probably not. I've listened to the first two books in this series and it's more about Jade having to embrace her witchy side than getting to know the characters. It just seemed to be one catastrophe after another where only Jade's witchy side can save the day and the other characters are just there so there's someone Jade can save. I liked the other main characters, but just not enough to continue with the series.
When I saw some of the reviews for this book I was concerned about purchasing it, but I'm glad I took a chance and got it anyway. If you liked the first book then you will also like this one - this one is even a little better as the plot thickens!
This is a great book; this is the second book in the Jade Calhoun series written by Deanna Chase and narrated by Traci Odom. It’s too bad she spent a decade shunning the magical community and never learned to harness her powers. Because time’s run out. A trapped spirit has revealed a clue to Jade’s long-lost mother. The resident angel has gone rogue and disappeared with Jade’s boyfriend, Kane. And if that wasn’t enough, her ex appears to be possessed. To save any of them, Jade will need to find a way to control her inner white witch without succumbing to black magic. This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. The story flowed very well and was very enjoyable. This book will keep you reading long into the night and you will not want to put this book down until you finish. This was such a great read and full of surprises. The narrator Traci Odom did a wonderful job with this book. She did a great job with the different voices of each character in this book. It was very easy to listen to and I didn’t want to stop listening until the end. If you are looking for a great book with well-developed characters then you need to listen to this book. I am looking forward to listening to the next book by this author and narrator.
"Angels, Witches and Demons"
I really enjoyed this book. This review is for both the book and the audio since I have both. I just love Jade's world. I had read this years ago before I had ever reviewed books. I've read all of Pyper's books now so I thought I would go back and finish these. After reading Pyper's, I see how much Jade has grown in her character. Listening to this one again makes me see how she could be annoying in the beginning. She always questioned everything, even when lives hung in the balance. Never doing as she was told. But don't get me wrong, I do like her character, and I can see why she was like she was. If you like mysteries and you like a dash of the Supernatural, you will love this!
"The heroine is so superficial"
I only finished reading this book because I was traveling and didn't have the time to download a different one. The story was basically good but I found the main character "Jade" so extremely shallow, self-absorbed and superficial that I couldn't wait for it to end. I would have enjoyed this so much more if she didn't always think about herself and her thoughts and feelings first.
"Not sure what I was expecting but this wasn't it"
I really don't know exactly how to express my disappointment in this book. I loved the first book in the series and was so excited for this one -- maybe my expectations were too high.
I spent most of the book thinking "When did Jade turn into such an annoying bitch" and "Bea, please for the love of my sanity give some more instruction to Jade other than just telling her to do something." I was also expecting some more explanation about a few things from the last book.
Pros: I continue to love all the supporting characters especially Pyper and Kat. The storyline was very engaging and interesting.
Cons: Jade's character seemed to actually regress in this series and the story seemed to really drag at the end - thought I would never finish the story. And honestly -- how much torture can one character take -- poor Dan.
I'm very skeptical to read/continue this series after this book. I will probably take a break from this series for awhile.
"The Past isn't always finished sometimes it return"
When past and the present collide, Lives will hang in balance, Same Fight fought through ages comes to their very door step Good Vs Evil and there will be victims who could be beyond saving. Does evil win this time, What is win anyway if you lose someone do you lose? Or Win? Love, Hate, Evil Good, Lost, Redeemed it all plays a role in this adventure.
Lovely Listen once it get started it really keep you guessing!
a great continue to the first book. loved the story and the new characters. can't wait for the following book.
