Summary
Winter of the World is the second novel in Ken Follett's uniquely ambitious Century trilogy. On its own or consumed in sequence with Fall of Giants and Edge of Eternity, this is a spellbinding epic of global conflict and personal drama.
A Battle of Ideals
It is 1933 and, at Cambridge, Lloyd Williams is drawn to irresistible socialite Daisy Peshkov, who represents everything that his left-wing family despise. But Daisy is more interested in aristocratic Boy Fitzherbert, a leader in the British Union of Fascists.
An Evil Uprising
Berlin is in turmoil. Eleven-year-old Carla von Ulrich struggles to understand the tensions disrupting her family as Hitler strengthens his grip on Germany. Many are resolved to oppose Hitler’s brutal regime – but are they willing to betray their country?
A Global Conflict on a Scale Never Seen Before
Shaken by the tyranny and the prospect of war, the lives of five families become ever more enmeshed. As an international clash of military power and personal beliefs sweeps the world, what will this new war mean for those who must live through it?
Critic reviews
"This book is peopled by excellent characters, both lovable and detestable, and I , along with millions of other Follett fans I’m sure – can’t wait for the third instalment of his Century trilogy to appear." (Shropshire Star)

Fabulous - Fantastic
This is one of the best books I have come across - this catapulted Ken Follett into one of my most favourite writers. This is an amazing continuation of Fall of Giants, adding new characters and making older ones greater - but most of all its a story encompassing a history of World War II in Europe and America suggesting how events happened and enrolling these characters and the reader on a roller coater of emotions - and that for me is what makes an author great. With valuable history lessons a bonus this books has my highest recommendation.

WOW
This is the 3rd Ken Follett book I have read and he tells a good yarn, it is long but I like that and it allows you time to invest in the characters. A good test for me is when I have finished and I miss the characters, WOW was one of those. Some good history inter-weaved with drama, not high literature but who cares. Good value and Ken needs to resurrect these characters for my sake, so get writing big fella

Epic and entrancing
A great piece that should be regarded as one of the great masterpieces.
It guides you through one of the most important times in history as if you were there to see it for your self.

Brilliant
This book follows on from 'Fall of Giants' with many of the same characters but concentrating more on their children than themselves. The politics and struggles of each country and each individual are woven together well creating a brilliant story that i didn't want to stop listening. At times very happy and others almost in tears. Definately worth buying. Can't wait for the next one.

Gripping
Well researched, with a blend of the significant, annoying, spiteful, good and evil characters crafted into a fascinating human scale version of history.

Winter of the World Ken Follett
Another exquisite book in the series well read with an actor who articulated the characters really well
As always I would recommend that the actor checks up how to pronounce The Welsh language ?

Only the beginning
Where does Winter of the World rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
This is an outstanding story. Ken Follett's story lines have matured since he wrote the Pillars of the Earth stories. The characters are well defined and absolutely believable.
There's a nice blend of historical context and fictional characters.
Although this is a fairly long story, I was rather sad when it ended because I felt that I had become friends with the main characters and I wanted to know more about them.
Fortunately, this story will continue - I just need to be patient and wait for Mr Follett to finish his next installment!
It's nice to have something to look forward to - especially when you know that you will not be disappointed by the author.
