Number-one New York Times best-selling author Johanna Lindsey's passionate new tale about a gunfighter running from his past who finds his future when he escorts a beautiful outlaw to her hanging. Featuring one of Lindsey's most intriguing heroes: the dangerous and mysterious Degan Grant from One Heart to Win.
With his work in Montana completed now that the Callahan-Warren feud has ended in marriage rather than bloodshed, Degan Grant sets out for California because it is far away from the home he wants to forget - until the US Marshal who saved his life calls in a favor. All Degan has to do is apprehend three outlaws on the marshal's list and turn them over to the law. Easy enough, he figures, for a man no one wants to tangle with. But then a bold young woman crosses his path.
Maxine grew up so pretty and attracted so much unwanted attention in her Texas hometown that events spiraled out of control. She will try anything to escape the handsome, enigmatic gunfighter who intends to turn her over to a corrupt sheriff who will hang her instead of putting her on trial.
Saddled with a sassy, spirited young woman who insists she is innocent, Degan must hunt down a vicious killer and keep an old enemy at bay. But forced into intimate proximity with his beguiling prisoner, he finds his desire sparking into a wildfire of passion, and he can no longer deny that it is time for them to risk confronting their pasts so he can have a chance at a future with her in his arms forever.

first book I listened to rather than read. nice narration although I found Max's voice a bit annoying. story was really predictable and not her best work. no climax to speak off really.
"Wild West at its best"
It amazes me that Johanna Lindsey has written so many books that I have enjoyed. Don't get me wrong there have been a few duds, but on the whole she is an awesome historical romance author! This book was an easy good trip back in time. If books had ratings like movies, this book would be rated PG-13, for sexual situations.
Great story. Reminiscent of "Gentle Rogue."
Tad Branson is an amazing narrator! His voice has the perfect touch of humor, danger, and story-telling.
I loved this book. It had a fabulous story line with everything I love in a book. There was adventure, drama, comedy, love, and the best parts, an ornery heroine and sexy alpha hero. The only reason I didn't give Tad a 5 for the narration was that a few of his voices were a "tad" hard to tell apart. (hee-hee!) Overall a great listen!
Another great book! I can"t wait for the next book by this author! She knows romance.
"Romantic and Funny"
I really liked listening to this story from the beginning to end. The narrator was very good and brought the story to life.
"Took my breathe away again."
Yet again Mrs. Lindsey has kept me spellbound until the end. Thanks for giving us another 'sit around the fire, unable to breathe in fascination' story.
"One of my favorites"
Loved the narrater, loved the characters & loved the story. I have read this book several times and have enjoyed it each & every time.
"sweet and fun"
Such a good story. the narrator is amazing, found myself getting lost in his deep voice.
was a fun book with sassy remarks and a great ending. can't wait for my next Johanna lindsey book. totally worth the credit.
This was one of my favorite Johanna Lindsey's books. I will most definitely listen to it again! Narrator was brilliant and the story was gripping - i didn't want it to end. Its one of those stories that takes over your whole life for that period that you're listening to it.
"Well Narrated Unique Entertainment!"
A resounding YES! It has all the ingredients that make a good book; humor, intrigue, romance. I've enjoyed reading several of Ms. Lindsey's books over the years but this one is unique. It's different from her other books I've read in that it's the first western historical romance in my memory. It's quite a long book, but I was so engrossed I listened to it in one sitting.
Maxine (Max) is wanted for murder and bank robbery in Texas of which she proclaims her innocence. She knows she will not get a fair trial because the man they say she killed owns the town where she lived. He owns the Sheriff and Judge and she believes she would be hung without being given a trial. So she runs, giving herself a new identity; that of a young man. There is $1,000 reward for her/his capture. She's stayed free for 2 years by moving around and staying out of towns when possible, living off the land. When the dangerous and mysterious gunfighter Degan Grant, doing a favor for his Marshal friend, agrees to bring her/him in she's as good as caught...but once caught can he keep her?
He gives a good performance. He makes one feel they're watching everything unfold like in a movie.
I laughed but did not cry.
This book was pleasant listening. Although there was intrigue, gun fights and sexual activity it was all done with taste.
I recommend it for not only western book lovers but anyone who likes historical romances.
