Colonel Utah Blaine, held captive by the Army of the Revolution, broke out of jail and headed north from Mexico with nothing but the clothes on his back. Then he found new trouble struggling at the end of a noose - and stepped in just in time to save the life of a Texas rancher. The would-be executioners were the rancher's own men, looking to steal his land.
Now Utah has a unique proposition: Have the wealthy Texan play dead, introduce himself as the spread's new foreman, and take care of the outlaws one by one. The wage to fight another man's war? A hundred a month plus expenses. The cost of falling in love while he earns that wage? It wasn't exactly part of the original agreement, but Utah will soon find out-unless the bad guys get to him first.

"If You Like Westerns, You'll Love Louis L'Amour"
Utah Blaine found himself in a Mexican prison awaiting a firing squad. Not liking his situation he escapes. All he has is the clothes he is wearing, a canteen, a couple worn out blankets and a Bowie knife. Afoot he puts as much distance between him and Mexico as humanly possible. Exhausted he falls into some tall grass to rest, when he is awakened by several riders on horseback; a lynch mob. What can he do?
True to L'Amour's style the story is descriptive and full of adventure.
Great narration by Craig Klein.
I like Westerns, although Historical Romance is my genre of choice. Having been disappointed with my choices recently in that genre I decided to see what Louis L'Amour had to offer, and I'm glad I did. I enjoyed listening to Utah Blaine, and I think you will too.
"Another Great one"
Great central character, engaging story with legendary hero, This was one of my favorites
Keep up the great work
"HE'S ALL ABOUT DOIN' IT WITHOUT VIOLENCE!"
Utah Blaine is the first unabridged book I have read with Audible. I am positively impressed with L'Amour's ability to bring his readers out west, right down to the final howl at the moon! Was it the land, the woman, or the wildlife that makes Utah the man he is.
The scene where he returns to his father's wagon and he draws blood as a young boy. The scene and the noises brought me to his side, ready to help him where I could.
His ability to disguise his voice and represent the voices of the members of the action.
That huge man Utah ran into in the saloon and ultimately beat the crap out of him. Great picture as always with Louis L'Amour at the typewriter.
I'll be reading the book Semper Fi by WEB Griffin and remember my tour of duty.
Faster paced than most L'amour , less time to build characters, but good story.
I liked the story. It's a story of greed, Western values in action, and the taming of the west before true government regulations were able to be implemented. The narrator is a very good reader, however I found the differentiation of characters to be difficult to follow and the readers interpretation of the characters personality to be obnoxious. I also felt that the villains in the story were characterized as whiny and impulsive while you Utah Blaine always appeared too cool and at times cocky which significantly detracted from the overall story for me.
"Best Of Louis Lamour"
I've read and listened to a bunch of Lamour's books, including all the Sackett series. I believe this one may be his best. And Craig Klein is probably the best reader out of all the Lamour audio books I've heard. Great book and narration!
The book was great but I wasn't a big fan of the narrator but like I said all in all good book
"A thrilling tale."
I loved this book. It is a classic western tale told with humor and knowledge of the land and people of the time. The love story is sweet and real. I chose this book because I can trust Lois Lamour to have a great story that is clean and fun to read.
