Summary

Leah Buchanan's family has been in service to vampires for five centuries. Even so, Leah wants nothing to do with her family's legacy. But when she's summoned to her Selection by the Vampire Dominion, under familial pressure, she has no choice but to go.

Lucien has been living under the strict edicts of the Vampire Dominion for centuries but he's tired of these ancient laws stripping away everything that is the essence of the vampire. So he's taking it back. And this is because Lucien has been watching and waiting for decades for Leah to become available for a Selection and he will not be limited with what he can do with her. He will have her, all of her. Therefore, Lucien is going to tame Leah, even if he gets hunted and killed for doing it. What neither Leah nor Lucien expects is the strong bond that will form between them, connecting them on unprecedented levels for mortals or immortals. And what will grow between them means they will challenge their ways of life and their union will begin The Prophesies which makes them one of three couples who will save humanity or die in the effort.

Wrecking ball of a story.

Finally a book I have a real relationship with. I both love to hate it and hate to love it. The story is beautiful. But I can not take more of this angst and drama. I feel like this book held me hostage for a year. Which is the time it took me to finish listening to it. And finally I am free. Yes, I need the rant. Finally the day has come. I have no idea how often I have started on this book. It is glorious. The beginning is awesome. The end is rewarding. The heroine is totally wonderful, the hero is hot and glorious, and such an ass. If you feel like getting emotionally drained, this is your book. Just be warned the story is 16 hours and 26 minutes. With an awesome beginning and rewarding end, it is about 12 hours of passion and angst. Which is totally awesome. But emotionally draining. The narrator is out of this world. Which is why the story is such a nerve wrecking obsession. The author is truly brilliant too. Flawless story in every way. Beautifully written, with lovable main characters and host of supporting cast in an epic tale. Highly recommendable. In a year or so I will buy the rest of the series. Am that curious. But highly doubt I will ever read this story again. I am exhausted.

P.s.
Sorry, forgot to mention one of the best parts of the story. Humor. The story has this part comical heroine, she is absolutely fantastic. As one would have to be to get kicked out of studies for passing notes, at 40.

EPIC!!!!

This is a fabulous book!! Listen to all the good reviews!! Yes Leah is slightly annoying but tbh Lucien is so arrogant he deserves her distrust and her being stroppy. At the end of the day folks it's very entertaining!! Best vampire paranormal I have listened to in ages!!!!

Narration off-putting

Had read book previously and loved it, therefore bought the audible version and found the narrator very annoying making what is an enjoyable book NOT in my opinion.

Enjoyed it a lot

It is an interesting story and quite different compared to KA normal genre but I enjoyed it. There parts that are a bit difficult to stomach that the author can get away with because it is a fantasy book. The Narration by Abby Craden is superb, I will definitely look for more books narrated by her.

Not a favourite

I love Kristen Ashley but I did struggle with this one. Part of the problem was getting my head around the idea of the MC being tied into the situation against her will which I'm not sure sat with me very well. The second was a narrator issue. Overall, the narrator was great, a calm voice that read the story well. The thing that irked me was the voice she used for the MC. You're told early on that she is 40, but the narrator voices her as if she's in her early 20s. Perhaps a minor issue but it meant I had to keep reminding myself throughout that she was older which took me out of the story.

Vampire Romance with Stress and Anks

The idea of this book pulled me in, a world where generations in select families act as concubines to the vampire world. Interesting idea.
Obviously our heroine Leah is reluctant. She has been seen by Lucian previously and the whole or lets say eighty percent of the story is the to and fro play between the couple.
Leah is supposed to be forty but heavens she acts like a teenager. Her continual anks got on my nerves but I really enjoyed Lucian. If you are looking for an action packed story then forget the first part of this book, however, if you enjoy the battle for supremacy between a Master and his Concubine then this is the book for you.

I am not sure if I will buy the next book in the series or not.

This is playing with my head!

A most bizarre experience! How is it possible to fall in love with a character, even though you know, they are a work of fiction? And, even odder still, is how is it possible to fall in love with said characters voice when you know full well it is a woman narrating a male character! Some reviews have said Lucien was a jerk, but my thoughts are that when you are 823 years old you have earned the right to be imperious and controlling! Loved this book, brilliant, and the narration by Abby Craden was awesome. All the books in the 3 series are great but this was my favourite. I will love this book until the sun falls from the sky!

Romantic Vampire Drama

I just loved the synopsis for this story, I’m a huge fan of vampire drama, add in a strong minded concubine who is unwilling to be ‘tamed’ and this all makes for an entertaining and sexy novel. The relationship between Lucien and Leah is tumultuous at best, but Lucien can be very persuasive, and when push comes to shove, and all his cards are on the table, Leah realises she’s going to have to change her mindset. Together they can, I’m pretty sure rule the world. A little slow in places, but overall, highly entertaining, and dare I say, romantic. The audio version narrated by Abby Craden worked well, she narrated both Leah and Lucien perfectly.
