I listened to the beginning of this story three times only to realised I have tuned out ... But the fourth time I listened I managed to get into it and loved the story as it picked up.
The main reason for buying this was that it is narrated by Tavia Gilbert, who is excellent when narrating any audiobook and really gives the characters life!
If you want some light listening ... This probably isn't a good choice however if you like Greek god/goddess influences and are in the the mood for something needing some concentration, I would hardily recommend this ... Only downside is that I would have loved to see the main character and her romantic counterpart having a bit more sexual tension and feeling, it was weak on the romantic parts for me ... But at least I didn't feel like I was listening to the karma sutra as I have felt like with other audiobooks.
"Could have been better"
The story is told in 1st person. She, Khara, is very one dimensional. Her mantra is if she has to die she is ready. It would be something if she could go down fighting but she can't. She does not even have a sense of humor.
She is the daughter of Aries, who does not know she is alive and would kill her if he knew. Hermes is her guardian and she calls him father. She is the only female child of Aries and has no fighting skills. For some reason she is thrown from the Underworld and arrives in Detroit.
Being a Detroiter, I was offended with it being depicted as a cesspool for supernatural. But I got over that one. It is a supernatural/fantasy novel. The places mentioned are real places in the city which are abandon and perfect for the supernatural to hang out.
The story would be more interesting if it was about the brothers. Her brothers are the "police" of the supernatural beings in Detroit. She becomes an albatross for them to protect. I guess crime is down because for the 8 hours and 17 min they do nothing but keep her alive.
Of course there is the moody male character whom Khara despises right off the bat. Of course that is a recipe for the hate/love romance. Fortunately we are spared that scenario, but we do have those close moments.
The pertinent questions of her situation are never answered. Outside of her sprouting wings and killing 2 people, she adds nothing to the story. After 8 hours and 17 min. you still have no answers to the questions.
I only gave it 3 stars because I liked her brothers and their unique fighting skills. Aries "beds" various types of women to produce kids with unique skill sets. If you are looking for a strong kick ass female, this is not the one.
"This is gonna be good."
Yep. The story and characters are great. The narrator takes a little getting used to but she truly brings life to the characters.
None yet. It's in a league of its own for now.
I think I may have but I don't remember. But, I loved it.
Yes. I felt very enthralled and excited. It's going to be good.
This is another series I am looking forward to. I follow Amber Natusch on Facebook and she seems very passionate about her stories and what other people think about them. This book is very well written with good word usage and syntax. I loved the characters. Especially Oz and Ivy.
The narrator was excellent with good voice characterization. The story had some good ideas that would have been much better developed if there was a co-writer.
The main character was as interesting as a log rotting in a bog. The poor logic and plot development made absolutely no sense. Preposterous character behavior made me frequently wince.
One of the best female narrators with a pleasant presentation.
Almost everything that made no sense. From the main character being brought into danger by her brothers, to every time " I'm not afraid to die" is spoken.
"Easy to listen to."
All and all the story was easy to listen to and kept my attention. I am going to download the second book in the series and listen to it straight away.
"Just...Wow Great book"
Great story, great narrator
OZ, can't wait how he turns out in the second book
When Khara gets her wings
good purchase, you won't be disappointed
"excellently written--strong story-a thumbs up book"
I took this book on a whim--I was not disappointed. The story was compelling, and well structured. Every step in the story pulls you to the next. Characters are interesting, and hold your interest to want to learn more. It is not my normal choice of books, but I'm so happy I did read it. Now I need Book 2.
I'm listening to this series again hoping for book 3 the unspoken will be out soon. This series ROCKS!!!
"Worst Book I've Heard in a While"
Better story line and narration
A paranormal romance
I like Angela Dawe. I've listened to her several times before. I'm not sure what it was this time. I almost fell asleep listening to this. I just believe it was a horrible story.
The main female
"mesmerizing and brilliantly climactic "
Unbelievable narration, plot, characters and the roles they played left me breathless wanting more. I couldn't recommend this book enough.
Well this author has potential for good paranormal stories. This first book has lots of male characters, think J.R. Ward hunks, which are a winner.
With better editing the author can join the other good paranormal author ranks.
Note: you must use the new 1.25x speed to get the action author intended.
This is a series, and the author has set the stage very strongly on that premise.
I purchased #1 & 2 at the same time as I love Ms Dawes' narration when there are lots of strong male characters. YUM!
I have over 100 reads by Ms Dawe, check her out in Julie Garwood's Sweet Talk, my fave,
Nora Robert's the MacGregor series, and Tiffany Snow series. Her male voice brings out the hero so well.
This needed better editing and for the price it was ok, and worth my listening time. The male brothers are yummy and if editor did a bit better, author would have had a big hit.
