That title is genius.

Eli: sensitive, reflective, bungling. Charlie: dominant, calculating, ruthless. The two sisters brothers bicker their way to their latest assignment to kill a prospector in California Eli ponders the wisdom of keeping his horse, blind in one eye and Charlie constantly undermines his brother. Events however have a part to play in shaping the dynamics of their relationship. A western like you've never seen before. and yes very Coen brothers. The narrator captures the atmosphere beautifully: exceptional!!!

Entertaining to listen to

The south American drawling accents really brought the book to life - probably better than reading the book

Enjoyable book

This is the first book I've read of Patrick deWitt, it's interesting engaging with believable characters.
It is at times a little overly morbid, but this is just my personal taste.

The narrator is fantastic and really lends alot to the story.

I typically read non- fiction and this was a nice break from that. Overall I'd certainly recommend this book.

NB there is a film based on this book, if you want to enjoy the film, perhaps read the book after. If you want to watch a story that has been gutted like a fish and then the meatless, disjointed carcass filmed for a few hours read the book, then watch the film

We all know the film's never as good as the book. . . .

Take it or Leave it

So, this isn't usually my sort of thing, but in the interest of trying new things I gave it a go. It was enjoyable enough, the end a little anti-climactic, for characters built up to be so notorious I would have preferred something a little more interesting.

The story flows along at a decent enough pace, but without much purpose, there doesn't seem to be much point to their adventures, there's no big twist or reveal of any kind.

I guess this is probably the sort of read I wouldn't revisit, but if this is your cup of tea, I can see how it will be an enjoyable enough listen.

One of the truly elite books to enrich yourself by

Genuinely mourning the end of this book and Charlie & Eli will have a place in my soul that will rust and stay forever.

"It was a head that invited violence."

Golden.

Excellent

Fun and darkly comic story that follows the misadventures of two guns-for-hire, Charlie and Eli Sisters, as they carve their way across a Gold Rush era American Frontier, meeting many colourful characters and generally leaving mischief & mayhem in their wake.

The equally excellent narrator fully engages from the very first chapter and gives a real sense of individuality to both leads and secondary characters. Thoroughly enjoyed and would highly recommend.

A western unlike most others.

Actually the story would translate well to virtually any other time period. It's that good, or rather it's that well written. Every character rings true. No caricature characters at all. Pace is pretty slow, which suits the story just fine.

Great narration as well. A credit well spent.

A mesmerising but dark tale of the Wild West

An unusual story that would be difficult to do justice to if I tried to describe it, but it has a plot and is written in language that really draws the ‘reader’ in. I have listened to a couple of books narrated by William Hope previously and really enjoyed his style; but his performance in this was exceptional. I can’t imagine anyone else doing the Sisters Brothers anywhere near as much justice as he does. Thoroughly recommended.
