"Crackles with repressed longing...the explosive ending took my breath away." (C. L. Taylor, author of The Accident and The Lie)
It's hard to write a review without giving spoilers so just to say would recommend this as a compelling story with heartbreaking layer upon layer of secrets!! Will stay long with anyone who reads!
An avid reader who usually has more than one book on the go at a time.
I really enjoyed this one and was caught up in the story right from the beginning but I wasn't expecting what came out at the end. Call my naive! Amy is a young girl who has been working as a nanny/housekeeper for a family in France when tragedy happens and the family have to return to Somerset to a small, cold cottage. Strange things happen in the cottage and Amy is determined to get to the bottom of it while protecting her charges. She falls in love and I really wanted it to turn out well for all.
This story although set in the 1960s has a modern theme and a twist.
The plotline develops well throughout the story. I liked the spookiness of the story - present but not overwhelming. At times I found it difficult to believe it was set in the 60s as some of the themes were quite modern. But overall a good listen.
