Publisher's Summary

Everyone's got one, an old boyfriend they never fell out of love with, they simply parted because the time wasn't right. And for 30-year-old Tessa, it's Patrick Cameron, the gorgeous, moody, rebellious boy she met at 17; the boy her vicar father thoroughly disapproved of; the boy who had left her to go to Italy to paint. And now he's back.

    "I loved this book"

I just half to say for a thirty six year old woman with three kids this one was lots of fun I found myself smiling while I was doing the laundry and that has got to tell you something about this book,I will read this again in the future for sure just for grins it is long but It didn't get slow. The book is English so you feel like you are in London witch is also fun like you are on a vacation, the story line of having the old first love that got away is great and makes the story funnier thinking of who your old love was and that you are glad they got away to. and what would you do if they still wanted you? I liked this one and hope you do to

    "WOW"

I thought the narrator did a excellent job.

I enjoyed this book from the beginning. I have to admit that I am drawn to anything that has to do even remotely with London.

The characters were likeable and believable, the plot was moving along at a fairly good speed for my taste. Some parts brought tears to my eyes, a smile appeared on my face on several ocassions, I actually chuckled a few times.

I thought I had the plot figured out half way through, then, WOW, things started being revealed in the second part of the book. I couldn't put it down. I was either going to stay up all night or have to miss work the next day to finish it. I will admit, had it been a printed book, I probably would have skipped to the last page, just to see how it ended up. I'm glad I didn't.

"The Real Thing is Really Funny"

I absolutely loved this book. I listened to it almost all in one day. I thought the reader was excellent despite wonky sound quality at times, but more importantly, this book is hilarious. It takes a real look at middle age suburbia, warts and all. The end result is laugh out loud funny. I especially liked the body appraisal in the bathroom mirror. Hats off to the author.

    "Very Entertaining"

I throughly enjoyed this book. It was a gut honest look at "if only". It also kept me laughing and "oh no" ing throughout the book. I highly recommend it.

A nice story, nothing more and nothing less. Great when you just want something to entertain you.

    "Hard to like..."

This is the second book of Ms Alliott's I have read, the first being the Old Girl's Network.

What I have noticed about the main female characters in both is that they are really very hard to like, being whiny, hysterical a lot of the time, and demonstrating many more negative emotions than positive.

The male lead characters (or rather, the object of the obsession) just don't seem very nice. For me, I guess, if there's a romance involved, I would like to see the male-half express more of a loving nature than any of Ms Alliot's characters. Even the husband in this book seems a bit cold. Perhaps that's how the English express themselves (or don't!) I don't know.

I preferred the Old Girl's Network to this book, but even that I couldn't say was one of my favourite reads. I like to give an author the benefit of the doubt, and try a second book. In this case though, I won't be trying a third.

    "Really good fun"

It started off a little slowly but developed into a highly enjoyable read. I'm a bit of a girly-romance junkie, and thought it was going to be predictable, but it was fun, surprising, and at times so hilariously funny I was VERY relieved to be listening to it at home rather than a bus or train, because I think I would have cried with the effort to not scream with laughter. Lots and lots of fun, will be looking for other books by this author, who intertwines great humour with some serious issues. Loved it.
