Summary

When Lewis Harley has a health scare in his early 40s, he takes it as a wake-up call. So he and his wife, Charlotte, leave behind life in the fast lane, and Lewis opens the antiques shop he has dreamed of. Bonnie Brookland was brought up in the antiques trade and now works for the man who bought out her father's business, but she isn't happy there. So when she walks into Lew's shop, she knows this is the place for her.

As Bonnie and Lew start to work together, they soon realize that there is more to their relationship than either thought. But Bonnie is trapped in an unhappy marriage, and Lew and Charlotte have more problems than they care to admit. Both have secrets in their pasts that are about to be uncovered. Can they find the happiness they both deserve?

Milly Johnson just gets better!!

If you could sum up The Queen of Wishful Thinking in three words, what would they be?

Intriguing, funny, life!

What did you like best about this story?

I couldn't really say what I liked best about the story as I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Milly Johnson's books just get better and better. The author and the narrator are a match made in heaven as Colleen Prendergast is the perfect narrator for this type of book.
I was really glad to hear the return of 'The Daily Bugle' newspaper articles, they are just an hilarious addition to the general story. It has featured in a lot of her previous books, but i missed it in the last couple so I was so pleased that she added the newspaper clips again.

What does Colleen Prendergast bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

She is an excellent narrator and as I have just written, she is the perfect narrator for Milly Johnson.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

The book made me laugh so much. The names of the various antique dealers were just genius!! (Mart Deco, Stan Tiques, and Clock Robin to name just a few)
Lewes wife and her friends were so cringe worthy, they were like Cheshire Housewives (the TV programme) Bonnie's husband, Steve, was such a control freak, I couldn't wait for the outcome of their relationship.
Although I've said that the book made me laugh so much, I wouldn't say that it's a comedy book. There's a lot of heartbreaking things that happen and the different personalities are a joy to read about (even the not so nice ones!)

Great escapism - perfection

Just like the rest of her books, this has a lovely combination of a great heroine, a degree of jeopardy and the sort of happy ending that makes you smile with satisfaction for the characters you are so fond of by the end of the novel.

The story is ok though a little predictable.

The story is ok however predictable. Well written. Can't stand the performance though. The voice was irritating for me and I dreaded every time she said "AND"...

Loved it

Milly Johnson is by far my most favourite author. I love her writing, characters and stories which are engaging and leave you always wanting to know what happens next. This book does not disappoint, l like the little details, some of the police references were good and not unrealistic like so many, clear research had been conducted. Coleen Prendergast as ever brings this book to life, great narrator. Hurry up with the next book Milly.
