Summary
New York Times best-selling author Robyn Carr creates an emotional and uplifting ensemble of characters in this rags-to-riches-to-rags novel about women, friendship, and the complex path to happiness.
In the aftermath of her financier husband's suicide, Emma Shay Compton's dream life is shattered. Richard Compton stole his clients' life savings to fund a lavish life in New York City, and, although she was never involved in the business, Emma bears the burden of her husband's crimes. She is left with nothing. Only one friend stands by her, a friend she's known since high school, who encourages her to come home to Sonoma County.
But starting over isn't easy, and Sonoma is full of unhappy memories, too. And people she'd rather not face, especially Riley Kerrigan. Riley and Emma were like sisters - until Riley betrayed Emma, ending their friendship. Emma left town, planning to never look back. Now, trying to stand on her own two feet, Emma can't escape her husband's reputation and is forced to turn to the last person she thought she'd ever ask for help - her former best friend.
It's an uneasy reunion as both women face the mistakes they've made over the years. Only if they find a way to forgive each other - and themselves - can each of them find the life she wants.

Fabulous
When I first selected this book I was dubious and was feeling a little underwhelmed. A chapter in I thought I had the book all sussed out. How wrong was I?! Love the storyline, characters, twist and turns. Thoroughly enjoyable. Narrated beautifully that kept you listening. Well done!!!

Pretty pedestrian and unimaginative
Nothing enormously wrong, just a very pedestrian and entirely predictable story line full of terrible cliches, peppered throughout with some very cringey moments. Narrator did a reasonable job though mispronounced words and some characters blended together.

Twee ending
Easy to listen to and initially quite gripping.found narration a bit annoying but not bad for a freebie . Rushed at the end I felt resulting in a obvious ending

Good story a bit cute
It seems to be a recent trend in chick lit for the scenario to be a little grittier and perhaps mor complex than handsome dr moved in next door and so with this. Engaging and very well performed, but when everyone is beautiful/handsome and has a hidden heart of gold……..

Really good women's fiction that will move you
Not everyone will have heard of Robyn Carr, but perhaps if I mention Virgin River it will ring a bell. I've started watching Virgin River and love it, but due to all my reading I have not made Netflix a priority the last couple of years so I am not up to date with the series.
This story is about Emma and at first I wondered if I could relate to someone living the high life until her husband goes down and ends up committing suicide. I need not have worried, Emma was so genuine and a really good person so I soon fell in love with her and rooted for her to get her live together when she moved back home to Sonoma County. At home she sees her former best friend and that friend's family and at first it all seems rather messy and you start to wonder whether moving back home in order to get back on her feet was the best move for Emma. Fortunately that all changes and this becomes a really touching story with some twists that I had not seen coming and smaller stories within the main story. There was quite some excitement and drama and the superb narration combine with the events had me welling up several times!

Great freebie!
I wasn’t sure about this book in the first few chapters, but as I got to know the characters it came to life. Found myself looking forward to what happened next & it was free! Win win!
