Constance Verity has been saving the world since she was seven, and she's sick of it. She sets off on one last adventure to reset her destiny and become the one thing she's never been: ordinary.
Ever since she was granted a wish at birth by her fairy godmother, Constance Verity has become the world's great adventurer. She is a master of martial arts and a keen detective and possesses a collection of strange artifacts. Constance has spent the past 28 years saving the world, and she's tired of it. All she wants is to work in an office and date a nice, normal guy. And she's figured a way out.
The only problem is that saving the world is Constance's destiny. She's great at it, and there are forces at work to make sure she stays in the job.
Then again, it's also her destiny to have a glorious death.

"Baffled by the enthusiasm"
Young readers. Not "young adult" - young.
I have not. I think she is quite good... better than many on Audible... not as good as the best.
I like a light and fun read. So not faulting that, in any way. But I am baffled by the comments which caused me to buy this -- such as "fantastic ride", "masterfully", "ultimate female action comedy" and "laugh out loud". To me it seems like lightweight writing, severely lacking in substance. I can only think it is for young readers - but I don't see that stated.
"another good book"
I have most of A. Lee Martinez audio books. I keep a look out for any new ones. This book is good. A little more serious but humor still present. It was fun seeing a non super hero at work. I do wish a little more detail about the fairy godmother could have been given. Cynthia Farrell does a good job. She is excellent as Connie and her friend. The male voices sounded a little too much alike. These are enjoyable characters in a good story.
"far from his best"
not up to the usual standard of A Lee Martinez's
writing not as many laughs or as much heart
This was a great read. It was funny, yes, but also had heart and adventure and a great sense of wonder. Highly recommended.
"Everything that made smallville and buffy annoying"
Incessant whining about how interesting/awesome she is. It's lazy writing and relies on the same device for filler that Family Guy uses
"So Much for a Normal Life"
Follow the unique perspective of a charmed adventurer who just wants the madness to stop so she can become normal. Alas, the forces of the Universe (and possibly several other Universes) conspire against her. Ninjas, robots, aliens, and magic abound.
I’m just glad the author made four cats the arbitrary limit of “too many.” My three cats thank you.
Her voice felt appropriate for Constance and the other characters she brought to life.
"A. Lee Martinez shines!"
Just a joy to listen to his terrific tale. I await the second book of the series! Thank you for having the book available in audible format.
"not up to his usual standards"
the last two books by this author have been nowhere near as good as his previous works. Nowhere near as funny, or is interesting or entertaining. If you're a big fan, you will still get something out of this. but don't go in expecting much.
"I liked it, but not my favorite from Mr. Martinez"
This is an enjoyable book. I do recommend it.
Still, it's not Mr. Martinez's best work.
