But ever since Jared arrived in Amesport, Maine, he's been intrigued by Mara Ross, the petite and sexy shop owner who asks nothing of him. When Mara's store is purchased without her knowledge, she stands on the brink of losing her home, her livelihood, and generations of family history. Then the irresistibly persuasive Jared proposes a business deal to Mara...and soon draws her into a steamy, sensual affair, convincing her that he's anything but cold. However, when a revelation shakes Mara's fragile trust to the core, Jared must finally confront the truth about his past.

"HE DIDN'T BELIEVE IN LOVE..... UNTIL MARA"
He's super rich, gorgeous, sexy, muscled and charming but the one thing he's not is naive about love.... nope, he's been there done that and got the heartbreaking memories to prove it - so, for Jarred Sinclair, love doesn't exist. Even when he becomes obsessed with the lovely Dollmaker Mara he still treats it as a casual fling, a one maybe two or possibly three time thing but that was going to be it.... no getting attached, no wanting a relationship and definitely no long-term commitments.... but underneath this facade was a tormented soul.
However, as soon as the sweet but lonely Mara gives in to Jarred's charms and dirty talk something clicks and everything seems right and light in his world.... except he's still haunted by actions in his past that he just can't overcome. But Mara sees that this charming, thoughtful and beautiful man is vulnerable, sensitive and he's just been used in his past relationships for his money whereas she not interested in how wealthy he is, no she just wants to do things for him, spoil him, love him so it's his heart that Mara wants. She wasn't going to fall for this roguish Playboy but he was constantly helping her, advising her, supported her business decisions, he was a very skilled and talented lover and a good friend. Jarred quickly became very needy, eager for Mara's affections and wanted a future with her so he showed his deep and caring side in reverent words, thoughtful deeds and smouldering sex. Then, after bearing his soul by sharing his secrets to Mara, he finally started to open up and forgive himself but it wasn't until he thought he was losing Mara that love finally stood a chance to move in.
The drama in this listen was more emotional and about opening up to feelings and taking tentative steps in their relationship rather than dramatic scenes but there were a few lighthearted arguments, a life threatening fire, tears, joy, heartbreak, a terrible revelation by Hope and an overheard secret threatened their happy relationship. Jarred had a dirty mouth and was a dirty talker which Mara loved and there were lots of sexy scenes too. You could feel the love and tight bonds that all the Sinclair siblings had for one another and their partners too. Dual POV's and a narrator whose wonderful vocal skills brought this up to a 5 star listen.
Worth a credit? This light, sickly sweet, entertaining and enjoyable listen had humor, passion, lots of smoking sex, loveable characters, emotional turmoil, passion, romance and a few arguments causing bumps in the road to their beautiful love story. And all this was just $7.34 so no need for me to use a credit on it because I just buy a book if it's under $10 saving the credit for a costlier (but maybe not as enjoyable) listen but I would have gladly used a credit on this and been very happy. I'm now eagerly looking forward to the all knowing, arrogant, broody, moody, secretive and stern Evan's story next because he's going to be a hard nut to crack.
All the billionaire books are basically the same. The characters change and the story line differs a little. Other than that, they are identical. Time to find a new author.
"simple, dull, predictable"
No conflict. No depth.
Sweet girl is sweet. Hot guy instantly falls in love with sweet girl.
"lots of bad language"
lots of bad language. otherwise a good story. will read next one to finish family.
"Great Continuation of the Sinclair Guys"
J. S. Scott is doing a great job of continuing the Sinclair family story. She brings reality to the land of the rich and famous. Jared has the typical opinion of gold diggers. Until he met Mara. The plain, self conscious young woman sets him on fire. Very enjoyable and entertaining. To be pursued by a gorgeous and rich man is every woman's dream. However, there is a twist to the story. Very well written and narrated. Elizabeth Powers does a great job of separating the characters and building their personalities. J. S. Scott does a great job of bringing you in and keeping you until the end. Looking forward to the next Sinclair story.
"Entertaining Sweet Romance"
J. S. Scott’s The Forbidden Billionaire is the story of Jared Sinclair and Mara Ross. Jared is an architect by trade who upon graduating college had a dream to buy, refurbish and sell old homes. His plans were derailed as betrayal and unfounded guilt led him down a path where he was all work and no play while having superficial relationships with women and business associates. Jared felt he deserved the life he was leading until he saw Mara. Mara has lived in Amesport, Maine her entire life; Relinquishing her college dreams, she returns to her family home to not only care for her ailing mother but to take over the family shop started by her grandmother.
Jason and Mara begin a friendship that leads to not only a business partnership, but a romantic relationship as they work on helping each other heal. Can their good fortune hold out, or will they last when the betrayed (Jared) becomes the betrayer? Can Evan, the stodgy eldest Sinclair brother, help each of them with his objective point-of-view? This is one story you will want to read in order to find out the answer to those questions.
Elizabeth Powers was great with the delivery of the story. At $7.34 the book was a good listen and I would recommend the story.
"Decent but formulaic"
I listened to the first in this series and then this one. The narration for both of them was natural and on point. I am not disappointed at all in the performance of these books.
As far as the story goes, I mostly didn't have any problems. However, I think the creation of the deaf character was totally unnecessary and unrealistic. I'm picky about deaf characters because I'm a professional in the Deaf community. I get asked on a weekly basis if my students can lip read and the short answer is not accurately. There is no way Jared and Mara could've had that conversation with the deaf character without some sort of visual support. IF she was deaf and not hard of hearing. But I know I'm being picky. Soap box rant over!
The only other issue I had was that the conflict was almost nonexistent, lasted about five minutes, and felt forced, just to fit the formula of a romance book.
But if you're the kind of person who mainly listens to this book for the sexy bits, these things won't interfere ;)
This book also did a good job creating suspense about Evan. I definitely plan to listen to the book about him soon.
"Jared and Mara"
I read all of the stories in this series and loved them so much that I got the audible versions of them. I have a 50 minute drive each day for work and listen to these stories and fall in love all over again! And Eliazabeth Powers does a wonderful job bringing these stories to life! Love them all!
"The stories are getting a bit formulaic"
This is the 3rd book in the series that I've binge-read. Some of the descriptions are very similar to those in previous books. Nothing you would notice if time had passed between reading each book, but quite obvious when reading them one after another. Still very enjoyable. I'm looking forward to Evan's story very much!
"Awesome, Another Happy Ending"
