Publisher's Summary

I'm looking for that perfect blend of flavours; the taste that used to be you. If I find it, I know you'll come back to me. It's been 18 months since my husband was murdered and I've decided to finish writing The Flavours of Love, the cookbook he started before he died. Everyone thinks I'm coping so well without him - they have no idea what I've been hiding or what I do away from prying eyes.

But now that my 14-year-old daughter has confessed something so devastating it could destroy our family all over again, and my husband's killer has started to write to me claiming to be innocent, I know it's only a matter of time before the truth about me and what I've done is revealed to the world.

My name is Saffron Mackleroy and this is my story.

    Any additional comments?

I have really enjoyed the other books I have read/listened to from this author. However, I was disapointed in this one. The story itself is good, but its too drawn out and a bit repetitive. At 15 hours, I think it could have been edited down to 10, then it may have been a 5* read. I must add though that the parent walking on egg shells around a 14-year-old rang absolutely true.

If this book wasn’t for you, who do you think might enjoy it more?

Someone that likes to listen to someone with a hell of a lot of problems and drama in their life.

Has The Flavours of Love put you off other books in this genre?

No........ Maybe- see the bottom of the page.

Have you listened to any of Adjoa Andoh’s other performances? How does this one compare?

It isn't as gripping as her other books.

What character would you cut from The Flavours of Love?

I dont think that you can cut any of them, they are all an important part of the drama.

    Any additional comments?

The narrator performed the story excellently. I loved The Ice Cream girls it was great, but I didnt find this as gripping. Basically I didnt relate to the main character, because she was too complex and there was just to much going on. It almost seemed like more and more problems were thrown in, maybe as an attempt to sensationalise the story, but failed in its mission.

I think the book was centred too much on her feelings, and plus the fact that she doesnt do herself many favours for about 13 hours of the book caused me some frustration. When it finished, it ended very oddly.

Sorry Dorothy Koomson, but Ice Cream girls was much better.

What made the experience of listening to The Flavours of Love the most enjoyable?

The book gripped me from the beginning. The plot was great and unpredictable. The narration marvelous.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Flavours of Love?

I enjoyed all the book. It is hard to pick out moments. I was never bored.

What does Adjoa Andoh bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

AA brings life into the story by acting out all the different voices and moods. She does not just read. She truly brings the characters to life :-)

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I was not moved by a particular moment in the book. The book is a whole.

    Any additional comments?

Splendid narration and splendid writing. Thank You D.K and A.A

    Story
"Dark, but also an excellent listen"

I am a great Dorothy Koomson fan, but having read the other reviews I was unsure about this book. Don't be put off listener, it may be dark, but in my humble opinion, if it was a book it would be 'un-put-downable'.

A certain amount of concentration is required because the story continually steps back to different times 'before that day', so if I was interrupted in my listening I would have to rewind to get back into the right time slot and level of attention, but it was worth it.

The characters are clear, their personalities transparent and recognisable. Sometimes when you think you can guess what someone's up to you are right, which is a nice feeling, but sometimes the plot is a total surprise, which is probably better.

My overall rating of 4 stars out of 5 is just because the story flips back and forth in time, which really needed my full attention, but as I have said before, it was worth it.

As always, Adjoa Andoh's narration was faultless - one of the best performers in the world of audio books.

    Story
    "No too sure about this."
Is there anything you would change about this book?

Having read all Dorothy Koomson's previous books and noticing how each book seems to be getting darker, I'm not sure I really enjoyed listening to this. I must admit I preferred her earlier books especially My Best Friend's Girl. I'm at a loss to understand why the book has this title, seems quite strange.

What other book might you compare The Flavours of Love to, and why?

I suppose its along the lines of The Ice Cream Girls and The Rose Petal Beach, but as I've said I preferred her earlier works.

What about Adjoa Andoh’s performance did you like?

Adjoa Andoh gives a great performance, I like to hear her reading books on Audible, and this did help me choosing this story.

Do you think The Flavours of Love needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No, I think its all been said.

    Any additional comments?

Hope Dorothy's style changes as I think this will be the last book I buy of hers.
