been loaned this audio book by a friend. story content is fine.a very typical love story with a reasonable twist. a bit light weight maybe & lacking historical substance. i usually enjoy a ww2 novel. very much a 'woman's novel'. not keen on the narrator's american accent. that's said without offence - i personally prefer british accents to listen to (even with local dialects!) it's worth a listen - but having said that there's better out there.
one of the better books I have listened to
the tone of her voice
brilliant book worth a listen
"interesting and exciting"
My second Pam Jenoff book. I didn't know this when I started the book but it starts where the first book, 'The Kommandant's Girl', left off, interestingly switching one of the bit characters in the first book, Marta, to the main character in this second one. I liked the way the author handled that
The book starts with Marta being rescued from a Nazi prison at the end of WWII and moves to London where she gets work with British intelligence. Then due to her history of working with the Jewish resistance in Poland, she gets sent to Prague to re-establish contact with one of her old cohorts. From this point on the story really gets moving and is exciting and interesting to the end. You really feel for the courageous Marta for seemingly suffering greatly at just about every stop of her life but continuing to forge on.
I'm sure I'll look to Pam Jenoff on audible again to see if there are more good books by her.
"Unsurprising, Yet Still Exciting"
I liked it better than Book 1 (The Kommandant's Girl), but I still could not help picking it apart.
I can’t say it was completely predictable, but I wasn’t surprised by any of the multitude of plot twists. Sure they were exciting, but I didn’t consider any of them gripping; to me the whole book felt like a string of contrived scenarios rather than edge-of-your-seat suspenseful drama.
Nevertheless the story was fast-paced and interesting; I’d recommend it as a fun distraction.
"It was simpy okay - not great"
If I were reading this instead of listening I would have been skipping a lot of pages. It was like a B rated movie I suppose. I rarely just listened. It helped to pass some boring jobs I had to do around the house.
Ending was interesting,
Didn't have a favorite
"The diplomats wife"
This was a wonderful novel. I didn't realize that it was a sequel to the kommondat wife
