Summary

From the author of The First to Land, a novel set during World War II. They called them the Scrapyard Flotilla. After a quarter of a century of service, the eight destroyers had seen all kinds of action.

Now they were to be used in raids to open the way for the invasion of Occupied Europe.

another Mans book

just the thing for when one needs to distract oneself from the bigger issues of the day. True British navy through and through.

Rubbish

First and last time I read this author, a mills and boon romance, utter twaddle.

Not Just A War Storey

Would you consider the audio edition of The Destroyers to be better than the print version?

yes

Who was your favorite character and why?

Drummond

What does David Rintoul bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

He always bring that calm so typical of the period

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

You don't live forever

Any additional comments?

The books by Reeman should be printed by 'Mills and Boon' they are really romantic novels not war stories

Badger The Ships Cat

I very much enjoyed this my latest listen of Douglas Reeman Titles a good story read as usual by the excellent David Rintoul. Quite hectic action sequences especially the climactic action chapter. A new character Badger the ships cat! Never regretted getting these titles from Audible.

Excellent

One of the best of all his many books.

Such a shame people like David M who gave such a bizarre review have no imagination, compassion or understanding and worse still such ‘reviews’ can’t be down voted.

an excellent tale

Enjoyed the intricate plot, the usual characters and different names and the excellent and accurate naval references - in my opinion, one of his best stories

A bit drawn out but fascinating nonetheless

The book is of its time and shows the attitudes of those caught up in war and how they dealt with unimaginable loss as well as victory. A bit drawn out but I guess there were long pauses of nothing between horrific battles. Very brave men who should never be forgotten.

Well narrated war story; a bit charactured

This was the first of Douglas Reeman’s books that I’ve read. The plot was somewhat implausible but well narrated.
