    "Classic stories, well told."

The stories of Lovecraft are as brilliant as ever, with Mr. June's voice adding a great sense of horror and gravitas to the words.

    "

It is made reality by an excellent author.

I read 'The Call of Cuthulu," as a teenager, it, I suppose is the one story, by Lovecraft, that has always dragged me back to his works.

I wouldn't call these horror on the modern expectations. But they remain unearthly enough to push goosebumps through even the sternnist of skin.

"Excellent Series for those who love Lovecraft..."

This release and the whole series is new, well produced, and provides an excellent medium for those who enjoy H.P. Lovecreaft. There are a total of six albums in the series, although Audible has five on sale.

If you are a follower of Lovecraft you know how difficult it is to get solid, well recorded audio books into the library. This is the path. Their principal reader, Wayne June is quite balanced: with clarity and no strong sense of being a goul, as some other readers are.

The recordings are priced about right for non-Audible-credits payers. I doubt that one 3-hour download is worth a full credit (which can be worth a full 20 hour download for other recordings). My suggestion: Since there are an even number of books available, have a two-for one sale.

    "Narrator is amazing"

I've loved Lovecraft for a long time, but I feel like I'm experiencing it for the first time hearing it read by Wayne June. He has an incredible grasp of how to do character voices. He brings the lushness of Lovecraft's prose to life. Passages that I must admit I've found boring when read on the page become genuinely creepy when read aloud by June's cultured, insinuating rasp. I'll be listening to this one over and over.

My first ever audiobook , I came here because of Wayne's work in Darkest Dungeon. I am supremely satisfied with the experience and Wayne is fantastic to listen to.

    Can't recommend this enough.

    "Matter of Fact Lovecraft"

Wayne June reads two of Lovecraft's best-executed stories in the tone of a staid man of common sense, say a business manager or a pedantic scholar, who has been brought unwillingly to believe in strange and terrible things. His approach underlines Lovecraft's strengths while covering his faults. An excellent afternoon's entertainment.

What made the experience of listening to The Dark Worlds of H. P. Lovecraft, Volume One the most enjoyable?

Two Words. One Name. Wayne June. This guy could read the phone book and make it scary.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Dark Worlds of H. P. Lovecraft, Volume One?

The Climax of The Dunwhich Horror really stands out, the whole story builds and builds and the dread grows and grows. It's amazing.

What about Wayne June’s performance did you like?

Everything. Just re-read the top, that's it.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not originally, but once Mr. June's voice started in I just could not turn it off.

    Any additional comments?

For any fans of H.P. Lovecraft this entire series is a must have.

    "Chilling!"

Dark, dreamy, the stuff nightmares are made of.
Lovecraft is classic horror with rich American heritage flavor. Visit a town so far off any normal path the natives are already frightening, even before darker visitors move it. And chase the dreams of a list of madmen to discover a secret so dark it can't be mentioned.
A host of modern-day horror talents tip their hats to this brilliant original master.
Want to add a chilling challenge to your delight? Listen with the lights off.

One of the best stories I've absorbed to this day, I'd recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy horror of a kind unique to Lovecraft.

    "Excellent performance but "dated" content,"

This was actually my first direct consumption of Lovercraft's work but I have been aware of his work through the plethora works (films, games, books, etc) that have been inspired and influenced by him. And I have to think that he has been spoiled for me by all of those other works, nothing was as disturbing or surprising as it really should have been, as I had a clear image of "Lovecraftian" cosmic horror in my head, and I couldn't let my imagination really work with Lovecraft's prose to disturb me. That is not to say I didn't enjoy the two stories, just not as much as I was hoping.

It should be noted that the "dated" in the title refers to Lovecraft's 'of the times' way of thinking in terms of race relations (every person of mixed race in the stories was under the evil influence) Even for the 1920s it seemed a bit much.

Wayne June as the narrator was excellent, and the main reason I bought this audio book, I first learned of him from the computer game "Darkest Dungeon" (another Lovecraft inspired product) and I adored his voice and delivery, and I am very happy to see that his performance here was of the same quality. I will most likely make my way through the whole series on account of Mr. June.

The only aspect of this audiobook that is not stellar, are the sometimes odd edits which can break your immersion and pull you out of the incredible world in which you find yourself transported into.

    This is a must buy!

    "Wayne June masters this content."

If you enjoy Lovecraft already, or you would like an excellent introduction to his work, this title is an excellent choice. Wayne June delivers these stories with a tone sensitivity to the material that makes listening an involving experience.
