Summary
"The dog was lying on the grass in the middle of the lawn in front of Mrs Shears' house. It looked as if it was running on its side, the way dogs run when they think they are chasing a cat in a dream. But the dog was not running or asleep. The dog was dead. There was a garden fork sticking out of the dog."
The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a murder mystery novel like no other. The detective, and narrator, is Christopher Boone. Christopher is fifteen and has Asperger's, a form of autism. He knows a very great deal about maths and very little about human beings. He loves lists, patterns, and the truth. He hates the colours yellow and brown and being touched. He has never gone further than the end of the road on his own, but when he finds a neighbour's dog murdered he sets out on a terrifying journey which will turn his whole world upside down.
Please Note: this title starts at Chapter 2. The main character has a preference for prime numbers, so he numbers his chapters according to primes: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11 etc.

Great book - shame about the adults
This is a wonderful book, extremely well narrated by Ben Tibber, whose performance is both subtle and very natural. I was disconcerted at first because Christopher, the narrator, tells us that he is 15 years, 3 months and 2 days old. Ben Tibber, on other hand, sounds as though he is at least five years younger than this. However, the vulnerability and naturalness of his performance completely won me over and I could see why the editorial decision had been taken to cast someone whose voice hadn’t broken.
Ben Tibber’s naturalness, however, brings me to my only quibble: the “actorish” nature of the other performances (hence only 4 stars). Christopher’s parents – and particularly his mother – don’t sound like real people at all and are far too stagey. Some people just can’t help it, I know, but the contrast with Tibber’s reading didn’t do the adults any favours.

I Enjoyed this book on Audio
I had put off reading this book even though it had been recommended by many people. I eventually got it on Audio as it was 1 of my sons GCSE books as a play. I did enjoy it and was a great insight into autism. However i agree with my son that the narrator's voice was too young for the character who is 16 years. The narrator although excellent sounds much much younger. It didnt spoil it for me but i think it would do if like my son you were already familiar with the story.

An interesting insight
All patents of children with autism should read this book in my opinion. It’s a great insight into their view of the world and how they function in it.
