Summary

This book has been adapted for audio and is partly dramatised.

"The dog was lying on the grass in the middle of the lawn in front of Mrs Shears' house. It looked as if it was running on its side, the way dogs run when they think they are chasing a cat in a dream. But the dog was not running or asleep. The dog was dead. There was a garden fork sticking out of the dog."

The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time is a murder mystery novel like no other. The detective, and narrator, is Christopher Boone. Christopher is fifteen and has Asperger's, a form of autism. He knows a very great deal about maths and very little about human beings. He loves lists, patterns, and the truth. He hates the colours yellow and brown and being touched. He has never gone further than the end of the road on his own, but when he finds a neighbour's dog murdered he sets out on a terrifying journey which will turn his whole world upside down.

Please Note: this title starts at Chapter 2. The main character has a preference for prime numbers, so he numbers his chapters according to primes: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11 etc.

Such a surreal moment

So I read this book before, a translation of it, way back! And I knew it but wasn't sure but also knew it. And then I started listening and literally every little detail about the story and about how the story is told and all the characters and the narrators little voice was still there. I don't have a good memory but with this one it somehow worked overtime. And it wasn't a normal rereading either because I never read those english words before but I knew them and knew what was coming next. Just sparkled my mood so much!

Fascinating

An Enjoyable book, I struggled a little to get through it, as it is written from the point of view of an autistic child, I found that I needed to be in the mood for it, and with no distractions! The narrator was great, fantastic idea having a child narrate it, but I struggled with the adult voices having different accents to what I had imagined they would be like, but that is probably more my problem.
It's a fascinating book, and one that all parents should read (listen to), especially anyone with an autistic child.

The curios incident of the dog in the nighttime

Funny and real
I really wanted it to go on forever

The narrator sounded like he was 11-12 not 15

Stunningly good

It’s an amazing book. However there are some parts that an audiobook doesn’t do justice to. Because Christopher (the narrator) has Asperger’s Syndrome he imagines or draws maps and pictures etc., this you can’t hear in the audiobook. Also the audiobook tries to steer away from using any profanities or cuss words the character uses, so it mellow downs the whole feel of some characters.

Otherwise amazing story.

insightful and heart warming but with reality

I did like the story and insight into how life with a scale condition must be. it was happy and sad and most importantly real

A must read

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

It took me a while to get into the narration. I think that the sound quality of the recording isn't amazing which didn't help. This is why I only gave 3 stars. However, it's an amazing book and once I got into it I didn't mind the narrator too much.

What did you like best about this story?

Everything. It was the first book of this style that I came across and it really is groundbreaking. A great story, with so many layers.

What about Ben Tibber’s performance did you like?

It took me a while to get into his narration but once I was engrossed in the story I didn't mind him too much.

Voice didn't match age

The voice didn't match a 15 year old boy and was therefore very very irritating

Great

Great story with great reading. I read this fascinating book a few years ago and really loved. This performance impressed me as much as the book.

Excellent

I really enjoyed this audiobook it is really well read by the narrator with excellent sound effects which audiobooks don't often contain. The story is original and has a lot of depth and twists in the plot. Well worth the money and I would recommend you listen to this audiobook.
