Summary

Literary agent Emily May is in danger of losing everything she's worked for - her job, her home, her friends, and the security she provides her older sister back in Singapore - all because she doesn't have a green card.

Racecar enthusiast, high-flying, fast-living Derian Winfield is called home when the only family member she still cares about falls ill. Forced into assuming a role in her father's dynasty she's spent years avoiding, Derian needs to rehabilitate her black sheep reputation in a hurry, or the agency will likely end up being lost in a takeover.

Together she and Emily take on Derian's father and his hatchet woman, and in the process Derian comes up with a plan to solve both their problems. Now she only needs to convince Emily to marry her - a perfectly reasonable solution to all their troubles, or so she thinks. She just hadn't counted on falling in love.

Good book

I love Radclyffe and Abby Craden, I think the narration was fantastic as always. But I felt the story was a little bit boring compared to her normal books which usually has more drama in them, wanted more to happen in the story ups and downs even with Martin the dad coming in and getting in the way more as this would have caused more drama.

Unbelievably bed plot, one dimensional & formulaic

The plot of this novel is ridiculous because the premise it is based on - that the daughter of a US Embassy official would need a visa is wrong. She would be a US national even if born in Singapore and would not need a visa. This mistake in the plot makes all the important parts of the story unbelievable. Added to this, the characters and story are written in in a one dimensional way with nothing to create any emotional involvement from the reader.

Much of the writing sounds like Radclyffe has strung a lot of individual sentences together so there is no flow or depth. Apparently she narrates her books so little wonder. Radclyffe should hire a good editor if she's not up to doing it herself. Every now and then Radclyffe's writing talent peeks through, although this is rare. However she should try writing stories that are not simply formulaic vehicles for sex and so similar that they start sounding like the same tale repeatedly retold. I think she might surprise herself and actually come up with a good novel with depth and insight.

Abby Craden's reading style is so affected and irritating it does nothing to improve this tedious audiobook.

I only finished listening because I was hoping it would improve. While the last two chapters were a little bit better than the rest this is not enough to make the whole audiobook worth listening to. Be warned!

wanted more

although thoroughly enjoyable, I felt the story needed more, could have been more, the greencard, sister, father, aspects that should have been dealt with indepth seemed skirted around,
still finding books by a loved author is a thrill and has me diving into search for ones I've missed or audible left out in updates.
no doubt abby craden is a great narrator and it seemed she too enjoyed this book, as her performance is exceptional, her tones for the shy characters is so sensual
