Summary

Further adventures from the much-loved Captain Blood, the 'Robin Hood' of the Spanish Seas. In his latest exploits, The Chronicles of Captain Blood takes Peter to new adventures with as much excitement and swashbuckling adventure as ever before.

Winning invaluable treasures, rescuing his crew from almost certain death and saving an English settlement are all in a day's work for this remarkable hero of land and sea.

Critic reviews

“One wonders if there is another storyteller so adroit at filling his pages with intrigue and counter-intrigue, with danger threaded with romance, with a background of lavish colour, of silks and velvets, of swords and jewels” ( Daily Telegraph)
“Sabatini's stories abound with drama and melodrama, action and excitement and brilliant colour, as well as minute period detail. No writer, not Scott, nor Dumas, nor Stevenson, has brought the past to life more vividly or accurately” (George Macdonald Fraser)

Disappointing after book I

I was enjoying Captain Blood - book I so much that I couldn’t wait for book II

I was disappointed for one simple reason that I hoped that book II would continue where book I stopped BUT that wasn’t the case - this is why I reduced points - as I feel that a series should stay within one storyline…

Otherwise - seen the book on it’s own - IT WAS OK - but not as gripping as book I was ….

Several adventurs of the swashbuckling kind.

If you enjoyed the tale of Captain Blood or indeed, any tale of piracy, this book will be as a chest of treasure. It contains several adventures of Captain Blood that had ostensibly been passed over in the book Captain Blood else it had been too long. The Chronicles after a very brief introduction for those as yet unacquainted with Captain Blood, plunge straight into a series of adventures or novella which although separate are cleverly bound together. so that they leave the reader well satisfied. I thoroughly recommend The Chronicles of Captain Blood excitingly performed by Michael Maloney.

More superb adventures.

Cleverly crafted, beautifully written and still surprisingly fresh. This is a worthy follow up to the original novel. Sabatini knows where to tie the stories to each other, or the first book, and where to introduce new plotlines and characters to avoid staleness. The stories of Blood do rise above other works of adventure fiction from the period as particularly smart and well thought out.
