Summary
St Angelus runs like a family: the workers take care of their own - a lesson the mysterious new assistant matron, Miss Van Gilder, is about to learn the hard way.
Little Joe has had trouble breathing but the doctors don’t take his sister Lily’s concerns seriously, least of all Miss Van Gilder. The nurses of Lovely Lane have a secret which is dividing their close knit group and when Nurse Pammy Tanner once again breaks the rules, her actions threaten them all.

Heartwarming, heartbreaking.
Nadine Dorries and Georgia Macguire draw you expertly into the heart of the community of the slums of Liverpool after the war. The characters are warm, caring, loving - sharing what little they have with those in need.
The hospital community, by contrast, on the surface is much more regimented and disciplined - but underneath beats a warm, caring, loving heart.
This story, told through the eyes of Lily and her family, the gentle nurses, the affluent, arrogant Amy and the lovely Lockey tells of loyalty, love and loss. On more than one occasion, I could not stop the tears from rolling down my face, I was there with them all.
The intricate, but beautiful 'love dances' that grew and developed throughout the story were sweet and - for the most part - innocent. The underlying deceit weaving its way through the story, kept me asking myself where this was going - didn't expect that!!
I was so disappointed when I finished this book as I thought it would be a long time until the next one comes out. Imagine my excitement when looking through audible for another of Nadine's books (I have 'read' them all), to find that The Mothers of Lovely Lane is out. Needless to say, I have already downloaded it - can't wait 🤗.

As good as book 1
Loved this very human story of what life was like for many people in inner cities in the early 1950s.

Enjoyable reading a slice of early NHS life and poverty in the 1950s
A really enthralling story line , not quite as much about hospital life as Book One in the series , but a vivid picture of Liverpool and pen pictures of many colourful characters . Some pieces of the plot fell a bit too easily into place to be totally credible , but a nice warm and comfortable ending .

Enthralling
Totally enthralled with these stories. The characters are brought to life and the bygone era is bang on. Nadine Dories does a wonderful job narrating.

Can’t wait to listen to the next book
Great follow up, like that the characters follow through from the first in this series.
I feel some books do not have the storyteller which can detract, but in this case have really enjoyed as after a while you know the characters without being told. Now for number 3 in the series.
