Summary
When Ravi Kapoor, an overworked London doctor, is driven beyond endurance by his disgusting and difficult father-in-law, he asks his wife: "Can't we just send him away somewhere? Somewhere far, far away."
His prayer seems to have been answered when his entrepreneurial cousin, Sonny, sets up a retirement home, recreating a lost corner of England in a converted guesthouse in Bangalore. Travel and set-up are inexpensive, staff willing and plentiful - and the British pensioners can enjoy the hot weather and take mango juice with their gin.

Thoughtful
Way better than the film, in fact barely recognisable. This was much more of an observation of family dynamics, ageing and the demands life places upon us all. There is a part of all of us somewhere in Dunroamin....... You end up feeling quite attached to the characters, good and bad!

Not what I expected
Is there anything you would change about this book?
On the whole the story was to my liking, but not one of those can't put it down stories
What was most disappointing about Deborah Moggach’s story?
I expected it to be more amusing
How could the performance have been better?
Though well read, Nina's voice didn't reflect any of those parts that could have been amusing or exciting for the characters in the story
Did The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel inspire you to do anything?
Sorry, but no

dissaponted but pleased
Having the same title as the film you would think it would be the same story, although a very good story I was confused by the hotel being a differernt name, no young man trying to make a go of it. I think if I had realised they had chnaged the book so much I would never have read it . saying that it was a fasinating look into being old and thinking there was no way a change in countrys was out of the question theres hope for all of us .

It's ok
I really enjoyed the beginning of this book, but about half way through I began to lose interest. Not as good as I hoped

Slow to get going.
I found this book a bit drawn out and jumped around a bit too much for my liking - but I think its worth listening to again in the near future while the story is still fresh in my mind - and it may then be more enjoyable.

A very enjoyable book
This is a very enjoyable and entertaining book and well worth a read, or in my case a very good listen.
It is very amusing and one wonders if this could actually happen, considering the very high cost of OAP care. I did enjoy this book

Brilliant
I loved this book, I've not seen the film but so many of my friends have and kept going on about it so decided to give the book ago and I was not disappointed, absolutely brilliant, didn't want it to end, loved the characters and felt liked I'd known them for years.

What did you like best about this story?
The characters were believable and likable
What does Nina Wadia bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?
I felt like she helped me understand it more - the accents are all brilliant
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
No, I wanted it to go on for a long time though, so it was good to listen in sittings.
Any additional comments?
Now I have listened to the audiobook, I can't wait to see the film
