Summary

Welcome to Alderley, a magnificent mansion in the heart of the West Country where a grand house party is taking place. The preparations have been made, the guests have been invited, and the staff are on hand. What could possibly go wrong? Let the entertainment begin.

The theft of the diamond necklace and the antique pistols might all be explained, but the body in the lake - that really was a puzzle. 'Don't expect me to solve anything,' Inspector Wilkens announced modestly when he arrived to sort out the unpleasantness. And at a gathering that included English aristocracy, foreign agents in disguise, a ravishing baroness, a daring jewel thief, a Texas millionaire and, of course, the imperturbable butler, it was going to take some intricate sleuthing to uncover who killed whom and why.

What a treat!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Absolutely. A murder-mystery set in a stately home, laugh-out-loud humour, a police man who claims not to be 'sanguine' but who solves the mystery anyway - it's wonderful

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Affair of the Bloodstained Egg Cosy?

Finding out who did the darstardly deed!

Which scene did you most enjoy?

I don't know, the whole thing was a joy.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Laugh, titter, giggle, you name it, I did it.

Any additional comments?

I tend to be a bit conservative about what I read - I don't like 'dark', 'edgy', 'gory', swearing, etc, but this was fantastic.

Enjoyable murder mystery

A brilliantly read murder mystery. Lots of humor, many twists in the story and Cornelius Garret who is one of my all time favorite narrators - with his brilliant characterization. A very enjoyable listen.

Perfect Cosy Detective Story

Would you listen to The Affair of the Bloodstained Egg Cosy again? Why?

I probably wouldn't listen to it again because it's a whodunit.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favourite character was probably Jane. She was very human and believable, and it was nice to have a strong resourceful female character.

What does Cornelius Garrett bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

His handling of the voices was very good and I think added to the characterization. He has a very pleasant voice which suits the book.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, although I did listen to it over only a few days.

Any additional comments?

The plot was satisfyingly twisty.

A deceptive dunce of a detective delivers

Really enjoyable, misleadingly easy reading. For anyone who loves period fiction with flamboyant characters and a country bumpkin police officer!
