Publisher's Summary

Lady Eilis Dunbarton's life undergoes a drastic change with the death of her cousin, Agnes. Now she's faced with the disagreeable prospect of marrying the man who was to be her cousin's husband. Not by a change of contract, though. Instead, by deceit - pretending to be her cousin. But if her husband-to-be discovers she's not really Agnes, her life is forfeit. So what choice does Eilis have but to flee?

When Laird James MacNeill's clan rescues a half-drowned lass from the sea, there is speculation she is of the enemy clan, especially since she doesn't remember her own name. James is immediately enticed with the lady, but his focus must remain on finding the proper bride. For if he does not wed soon, he must give up his holdings to one of his younger brothers.

Focus slips away with each day Eilis is close, and James finds himself contemplating the thought of taking her to wife without knowing her true identity.

But how dangerous would the end result be?

And what will happen if Eilis's husband-to-be comes looking for her only to find her in the arms of another man?

    "Simple Sweet Highland Story"

I read the other reviews before I listened to this book so I was expecting it to be terrible but I thought is was good. It was a sweet simple feel good story....and there is nothing wrong with that. I also didnt mind the narrator. I thought her voice fit the story. To each his own I guess.

"I really wanted to like it but........"

I love Highland books but I found this one soooooo slow - I had to double speed it to get through it. Didn't like the narrator either and I think it may have been better with a much more skilled person reading it.

Worth a credit? Na - save it for a better one.

"Fun story, not so great narration."

The story is good and exciting but the narrator seemed to be rushing to speak. It was hurried and made me feel like I needed to take a breath just from listening! The accents were bad, I certainly have heard worse! If you can get past the narration its good.

    Story
    "A romance with heart."
What did you love best about The Accidental Highland Hero?

The narration was perfect for this story. This romance novel delivered a good tail without getting too over done as romance novels tend to do. The story reflected the place and time well,

What other book might you compare The Accidental Highland Hero to and why?

Good historical novels have some of the best elements in this book.

What does Maxine Lennon bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

The narration was essential to the story. Reading instead of hearing would be much less of an experience,

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No. It was just a nice experience.

    Any additional comments?

    Kudos to the narrator.

    "Wrong narrator"
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

No - the performance was truely excruciating.

What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?

The aspects of highland life she chose to show - least was the all too obvious foreshadowing.

Would you be willing to try another one of Maxine Lennon’s performances?

    no

Do you think The Accidental Highland Hero needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

sure, there are some good characters and situations that I can easily see readers wanting to follow if they can get past the performance in the first book. Maybe if she re-released it with a new narrator. I am far more tolorant than many and I still couldn't accept this performance.

    Any additional comments?

The only reason I didn't return this book was because there wasn't anything wrong with the story just the reading of it. Although I doubt I will ever listen to it again.

    Story
"You should accidentally discover this gem!"

Terry Spear has Indeed penned a gem in this sweet highland romance of love and intrigue. The characters come to life in a almost magical way and the enticing plot grabs and holds your attention from beginning to end. This was my 2nd or 3rd listen to this book and I enjoy it every time! while this is a stand alone story it is not the first in what seems to be a series or collection of books. The story of Malcomn and Anice should be read before this one, I think it called Highland Hero.

NARRATOR: Maxine Lennon is not one of my favorite choices to listen to. I do not ever feel inclined to pass over a good book in order to avoid her work but I don't really recommend her either. Her male and female voices are distinct and individual. She has a odd cadence, rhythm, to her speach that can be or is mildly distracting throughout her performance.

CREDITWORTHY.? I'd have to say YES! Listen to the narrator snippets or samplings but the book itself is wonderful ...

    HEAT FACTOR: Warm....
    in a very satisfying way.

    "Audio version"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

The story is wonderful and the audio was close to perfect.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favorite character was Niall...because he was funny. Of course I loved James and Eilis.

Have you listened to any of Maxine Lennon’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I think this was my first time and I will keep her in mind when purchasing audio!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

The book was good enough to read all in one setting, but it takes longer than that.

    Any additional comments?

    I love the audio/reading combination!
