Darkness falls quickly when you're being stalked...but it is always dark when you are a stalker. Unabridged selections include "The Stalker of Souls" written by Edward D. I love short stories, it's a medium that's given me a lot of joy over the years - this is a bit of a mixed bunch though really. Dean Koontz's contribution, which accounts for nearly half the length of the audiobook and is more of a novella than a short story, is pretty typical of his other work - experiments gone wrong, shadowy conspiracies and almost unbearably wholesome families in crisis. If you haven't read his other stuff, you may like it - if you have, you'll probably find it's more of the same. Of the other stories, Ed Gorman's Stalker stands out my personal favourite - unfortunately I didn't find the others particularly inspiring, I may give it another go and see if that helps.
The performance is very good - a mix of actors and actresses give each story an individual flavour, and no story is in anyway hindered by poor narration.
If you looking at this audiobook, are intrigued by the blurb and recognise some of the contributors, and have a credit to spare, it's definitely worth a listen.
"HUGE RIP OFF"
I BOUGHT THIS, BECAUSE OF ALL OF THE AUTHORS. I WONDERED HOW THEY WERE GONG TO GET 19 TALES IN 4 AND A HALF HOURS. THE PLAIN FACT IS YOU ONLY GET 6 STORIES, UNLESS YOU COUNT THE STORY THAT STARTED, BUT FINISHED WITH A TOTALLY DIFFERENT STORY. KOONTZ HAS ONE REALLY LONG STORY, WHICH IS NOT BAD, GORMAN HAS A GREAT STORY, LAYMAN HAS A GOOD STORY, LANSDALE CO-WRITES A STORY WITH A NOBODY THAT HAD GREAT POTENTIAL, BUT JUST WASN'T PUT TOGETHER WITH ENOUGH COHESION. HOCH AND MCCAMMON KIND OF HALF A@@ IT. JANESHUTZ STARTS A STORY THAT WAS INTERESTING, BUT THE ENDING HAD SOME OTHER STORY SPLICED INTO IT.
NARRATORS WERE GREAT, EXCEPT THE ONE FOR KOONTZ. I REALLY WOULD HAVE LIKED TO HAVE HEARD THE WHOLE BOOK.
"Mediocre Collection at Best"
A couple of gems from known authors but overall not worth the price. Also a glitch in the production gave me the first half of one story and conclusion to another part way through.
"Not 19 stories."
Well, it's not all 19 stories first off.
I liked some of the stories that were there. But it's not as advertised.
"this is 19 stories? I want my money back"
not 19 stories. I want my money back. or I want the remaining chapters please
