Publisher's Summary

When beautiful Tessa Harrison and her twin cousins take over their parents' Lancashire cotton mill, their luxurious upbringing has left them unprepared for their new responsibilities. For Tessa, there is an added but forbidden attraction at the mill.

Foreman Will Broadbent, with his genuine understanding of the business and its workers, could not be more different from the dashing cousins. Yet, like the twins, he is hopelessly in love with this untameable girl.

Their love for Tessa will lead one to death, one to the arms of another woman, a third too faint-hearted to take up his inheritance. And Tessa, the girl who could choose any man she wanted, is forced to shoulder more burdens than she could have imagined before she can be united with the one man she truly needs.

What the Critics Say

"This saga is, like all of Audrey Howard's books, compelling and memorable...a joy to read." (The Historical Novels Review on A Place Called Hope)

"Her thousands of fans recognise the artistry of a true storyteller." (Lancashire Life)
"Life and middle class living in Liverpool in the early 1900's is the colourful backcloth for the latest novel from this master storyteller." (Coventry Evening Telegraph)

"A well-rounded coming-of-age story...engrossing, emotionally intense page-turner" (The Historical Novels Review on Whispers on the Water)

    Story
    "Tedious to much detail"
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

A gripping story line. There was too much detail describing each scene. I wondered when I was going to get down to some sort of a story.

Would you ever listen to anything by Audrey Howard again?

    No!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from Shining Threads?

All of them needed to be condensed.

    Any additional comments?

Not my cup of tea. If the author can not grasp my attention into wanting to read on, in the first couple "pages" Its not for me.
