Summary

Every family has its secrets. Some are small, like telling a white lie or snooping through a private drawer. Others are more serious, like infidelity and betrayal. And some secrets are so terrible they must be hidden away in a deep, dark place, for if they ever came to light, they would surely tear a family apart....

The Tides are a family full of secrets. Returning to Clifftops, the rambling family house high on the Dorset coastline, youngest daughter Dora hopes for a fresh start, for herself and the new life she carries. But can long-held secrets ever really be forgiven? And even if you can forgive, can you ever really learn to love again?

Secrets of the Tides is the spellbinding debut from Hannah Richell; a rich and compelling family drama with a dark thread of suspense at its heart. Read by Emilia Fox, star of Silent Witness.

A must read

So beautifully read. This is a wonderful story.
Deeply sad in places, but joyous too

Deeply moving - cleverly written

Such a sad family tale - very well written and deeply emotional.

It was so easy to believe the miscommunications within the family and how a series of events could shape and destroy a group of people's lives so completely.

I didn't see many of the twists and turns coming; they were well constructed and thought out.

Ultimately, I did get the ending I wanted but it was thoughtful and well written.

A great family mystery

I was hooked with this book from the start. Written from 3 females point of view (mother and 2 daughters). They suffer and are part of an awful family tragedy which effects them in their adult lives. This story covers their search of the truth and building the relationships back together.

Secrets all Round

Great book to read, however quite a sad book too. The secrets of all the family members all blaming themselfs for what happen on the beach that day. Wriiten over various time lines so can be a bit confuseing at first. The deep inner thoughts of each family member is so well wrttien. Emila Fox her narration is amasing! Her voice makes you feel the story not just hear it.

Great performance, clichéd writing

Emilia Fox reads this book beautifully, but the story is a little frustrating and some of the writing is hackneyed. Dora is a compelling character and the best thing about the book - even if her patience and capacity for forgiveness are a little too good to be true! The writing is peppered with clichés - you can often predict how a sentence/phrase will end, which I find disappointing.

Tedious

I listened to the end (although I skipped a couple of hours in the middle) Too much unnecessary detail that adds nothing to the book in my opinion. it's just tedious. Half way through i lost interest in the underlying plot. I persevered to the end in case I was missing something ...

Nothing new here

We selected this in haste. It is set in Dorset and we wanted something to listen while travelling on a Dorset holiday. The plot was predictable and the language uninspired, and it could have been set anywhere. Dorset itself was another story though - superb.
