  • Hunter of Demons
  • Master of Ghouls

  • Summoner of Storms

What happens when an exorcist falls in love with the demon he's supposed to destroy? Unregistered paranormal Caleb Jansen only wants a normal life. But when the demon-hunting spirit Gray accidentally possesses him, Caleb finds himself in a countdown for his very existence.

Hotshot federal agent John Starkweather thinks he's seen it all. But when he's called to exorcise Caleb, he finds a creature that isn't supposed to exist outside of stories. For Gray is a drakul: a vampire who drinks the blood of the demon-possessed.

If Gray can't be exorcised within 40 days, the possession will become permanent. In the meantime, the three must find a way to work together. As they hunt down demons and save the innocent, the heat between John and Caleb explodes into passion. But when divided loyalties threaten his last chance at exorcism, Caleb discovers love may come at a price higher than he'd ever imagined.

Fantastic and Awesome book.

Loved it, the narrator was excellent, he really brought the book to life. It's really additive as I spent most of my evenings listening to the book.

I wish I had time to listen straight through

Would you listen to SPECTR: The Complete First Series again? Why?

I could listen to this book time after time. The narrator had such a good voice and it matched well with the great story Jordan wrote.

Story good, narrator not so good

Struggled a lot with this narrator. He kept adding inflection to speech tags based on what was said. E.g. "You okay?" he asked?
Character voices were also a bit shaky/iffy, and either he was reading from a different edition than my ebook or he skipped a dozen or so sentences in total. (I tend to read the ebook while listening, since I have a tendency to zone out now and then if I don't have something to focus on.)

The book(s), however, I don't really have anything to complain about. :)

Engaging and addictive read

Really enjoyed this series and a complete BARGAIN to get nearly 25 hours for 1 credit. Bought into the premise, world and characters and listened to the lot in two days. Good balance of action, relationship development, ‘will they/won’t they’, sex scenes and enough angst to make it interesting without being even close to too much. You really root for all three main characters. Great to have a book based on gay characters that competes with, and is better than, many heterosexual paranormal romance books out there.

This was undoubtedly a great read - and in a league of its own with how great it is within the m/m literature genre.

Don’t know why I didn’t purchase it earlier ..maybe the cover put me off? Looks a bit like all the awful soft porn books about aliens abducting a woman and them being destined mates ..groannnn. No problem with erotic books, or aliens, but so many of them are badly done. However, the cover makes more sense now I’ve listened to the book and I see it differently. EDIT: Looks like the cover has now changed since I bought this book. Still not the biggest fan of it though...

Spectacularly Awesome!

What did you like most about SPECTR: The Complete First Series?

This has probably jumped straight into first place as my favourite audio book. For a start it's the complete first series which makes it loooooong and therefore a bargain. I really got into the story there was an awful lot of plot and story the focus wasn't entirely on a relationship. The cast of characters was great you were never that sure who was good and who was evil. For a paranormal story I found myself very easily absorbed into the world, it didn't have or need any long winded introductions to things. There were also many points where I found myself laughing, which as I listen in public gets me funny looks :-)

What other book might you compare SPECTR: The Complete First Series to, and why?

I don't know I can compare it to any other book, that's why it's so fab!

What about Brad Langer’s performance did you like?

Brad Langer was a new narrator for me and I loved him. The way he voiced Grey, the Drakul, especially when he was still disembodied sent chills down my spine. You always knew who was talking even if it didn't say. I'm going to see what other titles he has recorded

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Yes this book made me laugh on several occasions, out loud, usually when Grey piped up to complain about some mortal nonsense.

Any additional comments?

The visuals you get from this book are fantastic, sometimes I felt I must have seen it on TV as it was all so clear in my head

Whirlwind

Concise and well done story, romance was beautiful and built up well. Only issue is the Narrator struggled a bit with completely differentiating the characters but it was otherwise a solid performance

fantastic urban fantasy

This series is such an engrossing, action packed favourite that I have listened to it at least 3 times now and probably have many more relistens to come. The setup is original, intriguing and funny: a bizarre conglomeration of mismatched characters, supernatural horror and badass adventure. The narration is great and lets you feel for all the main characters but the great triumph is Gray, a supernatural entity with an emotional range spanning godlike rage and childlike uncertainty, inhuman indifference and utter tenderness. He is gloriously brought to life in audio in a way that adds depth to this pacy, boisterous tale. Highly entertaining in the best way.

So original!

I was enthralled by this story. It’s different in the best way. I couldn’t stop listening. Great characters, a fantastic plot with just the right balance of real and surreal. Great narration brought the whole thing to life.

Unexpected treasure

At first, I wasn't very sure about it, the story was kind of slow and the narration suffered but then it took flight and what a journey!! After the first book everything took it's rightful space and it just worked. I could identify all the characters by the different intonation alone and the pace of the story was fast but comfortable. What stood out for me was the character development, it was very well paced and it didn't feel forced, the main protagonists struggled and that felt real, they had realistic worries and in the end I couldn't really blame that particular friend (don't want to make any spoilers!) for doing what he did.
I just discovered that these serie has loads of books and I'm very excited about it because I wasn't really prepared to let this characters go!
