From the convent to the castle!

Nadine Dorris paints a lovely picture of life in rural Ireland just after WW11 but takes you a while to work out quite when the story is set. Well written with a good storyline and believable characters, which are well read and easy to identify as Noreen does and excellent job with the various accents.
I was just a little disappointed with the ship storyline which had a big build up up fizzled out with only a short mention of what happened and no explanation. Maybe another case of the author being told the book was too long or the deadline approaching so it had to be finished quickly. ( we readers do notice a sudden ending you know!)
There was so much more I wanted to know. Some was resolved in the epilogue but it would have been lovely to have had that as another chapter.

What A Lovely Story

Nadine Dorries is very quickly becoming one of my favourite Authors. This story is beautifully written and would definitely appeal to all Downton Abbey enthusiasts. I was drawn in by this book and felt and loved each of the characters, except Rory Doyle!!
Beautifully narrated by Noreen Leighton. I would most certainly recommend this story, hence the five stars.

brilliant book just wish it had been longer

Excellent narration. Great story reminds me of Downton Abbey. I just wish the story was longer and the author went into each of the characters lives more. Pity as there is so much scope to make the book longer.

The setting for this book is completely wrong! The storm of 1947 iis aout the only correct background. You would not find a such a large cohort of people who could not read in the Ireland of the 1940s as portrayed in this book. Primary education was compulsory since the foundation of the state and long before,. The Land Acts of the end of the last century almost ended the days of the landlord owning estates so the whole book belongs to the 19h century. I was in my teens during the 1940s and well remember those years . Very few, if any, landlords with tenants in cottages paying rents.

This is another wonderful offering from Nadine Nourishing. I wish they would create a filmplay based on this story.
