Summary
1891... Spinster librarian Olive Wilkins is shocked to learn of her brother's violent death at a saloon gaming table and her sister-in-law's subsequent murder, traveling far from her staid life to rescue her niece and nephew, now orphans. She arrives to find the circumstances of her brother's life deplorable and her long held beliefs of family and tradition, shaken.
Accustomed to the sophistication of Philadelphia, Olive arrives in Spencer, Ohio, a rough and tumble world she is not familiar with, facing two traumatized children. Her niece and nephew, Mary and John, have been living with a neighboring farmer, widower Jacob Butler, the father of three young children of his own and a man still in pain from the recent loss of his wife.

Never To Old For Love.
My first book of a Pairie Romance listening and reading really. I was caught up in Olives story as I considered myself a sort of bookish sort myself. I thought the story was told beautifully by the narrator and she sounded very emotional at key parts of the story. I felt very close to Jacob and all the children while listening to this. The narrator and the writer told such a vivid story it felt like I was there seeing this adventure for myself. A very important message i got from this story was you're never to old to fall in love. I really enjoyed listening to this book.

Can’t get this story out of my head
This is the the third book I have listened to by Holly Bush and again she has woven a great story.
Olive has travelled to Ohio to collect her late brother’s children and to take them back to Pittsburgh. We learn with her that the lives she thought her brother’s family were living were quite the opposite and now her brother’s children are orphaned and both suffering with their own traumas.
Jake their nearest neighbour has taken the children to live at his farm but Jake is suffering his own loss, after his wife died in childbirth and as independent and kind hearted as he is, he is struggling to run his farm and also to raise the family on his own. Olive is invited to stay on the farm so that her niece and nephew can get to know their aunt before travelling back to Olive’s home in Pittsburgh.
As time goes on we see beautiful relationships build within the family.
I particularly liked the parts of the story were we are hearing the thoughts of Olive and Jake as they tried to dissuade themselves of the attraction building between them. The chat between the local ladies with Olive as they use the term “itchy” in discussing relationships with their husbands and later in the story “ two stepping” causes great fun
I wasn’t sure at the end of the book whether this was quite a five star book but boy I was wrong, as for days after, my mind has kept drawing me back into this story.
I think a sequel is needed, I want to revisit fifteen years on and see how the family have developed. How have Mary and John dealt with new opportunities as they move forward from their difficult past. Have Jacob’s children stayed on the farm and what about baby Michael, has he grown into a young boy? What disabilities is he living with and how as a family are they providing the care that he may need and of course we have to know how Olive and Jacob have fared.
This is the first book by Lee Ann Howlett that I have listened to and to be honest It took me a while getting used to the narrator but I think she was a good choice, as this book needed a strong voice and she portrayed the dark and lighter aspects of the book equally well and the characters voices were believable. I would certainly listen to her narration again.
