Welcome to Junebug Farms, a successful, well-known animal shelter in upstate New York, where every day brings something new - love, stress, heartbreak, warmth - and not just from the animals. Lisa Drakemore is in charge of intake and adoption at Junebug. She excels at her job, in large part because of her ability to keep her emotions in check. Her past has given her many years of practice and she's become a pro. But once she meets dog-walking volunteer Ashley Stiles, a distractingly attractive, perpetually late, emotions-on-her-sleeve young woman who smells like cupcakes, all bets are off for Lisa. The first of the Puppy Love Romances by award-winning author Georgia Beers.

A nice Georgia Beers lesbian romance with one woman who is in a power position and is so emotionally cut off she's way more like a guy than a lot of guys you know. Lisa Drakemore, like Rachel Hart in 'Mine' is scarred by the divorce of her parents when she was a teenager and as a result has little or no contact with one of her parents. She has inherited a no kill shelter from her grandmother and despite most of her staff being volunteers she runs a tight ship. One of those volunteers is the very pretty Ashley Stiles who works in a bake shop and comes across as one of those people who find their niche early and stay right there. Then there is the mutual attraction that both women constantly try to minimize if not deny altogether, a staple of most of this author's works. Clark Breckenridge is the stereotypical sleazy rich contributor with an overblown sense of entitlement and at one point his overtures go way over the line provoking a confrontation with Lisa; who for a moment comes off as heroic; then blows it when she opens her mouth..
Lisa is in fact a difficult character to ever get behind; she comes off as totally self centered, self involved, and carrying a large of bucket of anger mixed with an unwillingness to forgive or even listen to an explanation. In short if you walk on two legs, she's not very nice to you. Ashley on the other hand is terribly sweet, accommodating, and has a willingness to help everyone. If there is a line between nice lady and pushover Ashley doesn't step across that line; she backs up gets a running start and leaps across it. Finally it wasn't a surprise to see more than one Junebug Farms book because there were about twenty characters introduced in this book so there had to be some reason for that.
The positive thing about the author's works is that despite creating lead characters that aren't all that likable, and some strange takes on who to blame and who to excuse she is a very good writer. Though you wonder why the hell Ashley would want to hook up with Lisa, you really want it to happen. Listening to this story on my I-Pod was a nice way to distract myself from all the yard I was doing one weekend. Good escapist listening; it was fun.
"Excited for the Second Book in the Series"
fun, entertaining, cute
I like the idea of a animal rescue, most of us are suckers for our pets.
Abby Craden is my favorite narrator. I could listen to her all day.
"Editors: Please pay attention"
Cute and perfect for animal lovers
George Beers seems to love dogs, specially Australian Sheppards. Can't blame her at all. :)
Mine was great too
WOW, Wow and wow :)
Puppy love is catchy enough
I’m not through listening this book yet but I chose it because these are 2 of my favorites: Author Georgia Beers and Narrator Abby Craden but please audio editors: Can you review this book? End of track 6, narrator says: "I seen to be missing page 56…
Just hope this doesn’t happen often "through the book…
another great story. funny, serious and charming. shows the true ins and outs of shelter life for animals.
"The Ups and Downs don't stand a chance against Ashley."
Once Ashley set her on Lise, no matter what emotional roadblocks Lose flunk her her way Ashley wouldn't give up on the idea of them as a couple, which as it turns was actually what Lisa wanted.
Another heart pounding deep writing by Ms Beers! Worth reading and learning -- although I would have liked to have listened to the conversation between Lisa and her mom! Ms Beers leaves one guessing and wanting more! A terrific story teller!! Really enjoyed it! And what can I say about Abby -- that gal is a reading ass -- I mean she is really good!
A sweet well told, well narrated romdram. Formulaic of course, but satisfying nonetheless. Georgia Beers had done what she does and, AA always it was a pleasure.
"fun story, engaging, classic Georgia Beers"

well done Georgia, more like this please ;)
"no no no no no"
basically I have to ask where's the ending this was a great story it was flowing fine and then all of a sudden it ends. this reminds me of an old afghan with loose threads all over. I love this author but I've never seen her do anything like this before.
this is one of those stories that continues on and on a lot of different books that would be great if we were given that heads up I know some authors like to do continuations but this just end I'm very saddened
cute book, a bit your adult. You cannot go wrong with Georgia and Abby combo.
