Some heroes aren't born... they're built.
Westley Worthington has it all. Piles of money, good looks, a head for business, and a seemingly limitless supply of women who want to please him. And that's just the way he likes it. Until a brush with death causes him to rethink his priorities, and consider someone besides himself for the first time in his privileged life.
Cordelia Cross has never had it easy. Her duty to her family has her working as an assistant to a man she hates just to pay her sister's medical bills. When her arrogant boss alienates his last true friend, she finds herself promoted from schedule-managing coffee grabber to the newest member of West's inner circle.
Tempers and passions ignite as the two start spending time together, until a shocking accident puts their newfound attraction on ice. When West is faced with the toughest trial of his life, Cordelia helps him realize that he has all the tools he needs to be a force for justice.
Together they must turn West into the hero no one ever thought he could be.

I would definitely listen again to Reconstructed: Building a Hero. The story is character driven with an exciting and unusual plot. I enjoyed the narrator's performance style. The male voice added authenticity to Westley's alpha male persona and the narrator, Mason Lloyd, softened his tone just enough for the female characters. I was impressed and I've already been checking out what other books he's narrated.
I liked the how Cordelia openly disapproved of Westley's party lifestyle and of how he treated his friends and employees. I liked how Westley slowly grew into a decent person and made good changes to his business dealings the more he got to know Cordelia.
There were so many memorable scenes. A few of them were in the beginning of the novel when Cordelia was in her disapproving mode and Westley was being a classic rich playboy. Some of his outrageous antics made me laugh and at the same time made me mortified on Cordelia's behalf as she was such a nice character.
I wanted to listen to this book in one sitting sitting but I had to make do with two! I loved this book and I groaned in a bit of a huff when it ended.
I received a copy in exchange for an honest and unbiased review.
"Surprised and Impressed!"
I love it when a story not only meets my expectations, but exceeds it, and Tasha and Mason both far out exceeded any expectations I had on Reconstructed, book one in the Building a Hero series. The story and performance were both entertaining and refreshing.
This audiobook is a little under five hours long but was well written, moved at a steady pace and had very convincing characters. Each scene and chapter evolved naturally, and was not forced. While there is some action in the story, the main focus is developing the characters, and building up the plot.
In the beginning of the story, we are introduced to the main characters while at a private party West is throwing. He has requested for his personal assistant, Cornelia, to set up this party, to bring over a group of ballerina's to have fun, and sex with because hey it's on his bucket list. A picture is quickly painted on the type of man West is by how he takes advantage, and treats his assistants along with everyone else. He's arrogant and has an big ego because he's rich, and he can buy his way in life.
Cornelia needing the money to help support her family, works for West, and is really good at her job, but for her it's not all about the money, she honestly cares about West.
As the story progress, we witness a miracle! West slowly starts to change they way he thinks and reacts to the world; however, this is not an overnight process. Some of these changes are brought on by his feelings for Cornelia, as he starts to mold her and gives her a more active role in the business. Also, he starts to change due to his failed friendships and his passion for his company. It was entertaining and sometimes funny watching him grow, from a all around jerk to someone you could be proud of. West and Cornelia started reminding me of Tony Stark and Pepper Potts from Iron Man.
I really loved the plot, and how West and Cornelia's relationship developed, but it was Mason's performance that really brought the story and characters to life. He projected the right amount of emotions into the characters, and you could easily hear the arrogance in West's voice and the hopefulness in Cornelia's.
This was a great story, and I will definitely be recommending it my friends! (I'm a big fan of whispersync deals and right now the kindle version and audiobook is at a great price. I would certainly buy it now before the price changes in Kindle. Who doesn't love a good sale.)
"LIKED IT SO MUCH...I JUST BOUGHT THE 2ND ONE!!!!!!"
its a good one, i listen to a ton of books...so I don't want to rank it...but I super liked it!
When West gets thrown out the window, I was like...Oh No, What about your date with Cordelia?
I almost did...its the perfect length to binge listen!!
** I was given a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review **
I totally loved this book, so much I immediately bought #2! This is a great little listen, well narrated and never a dull moment...West is a rich jerk, and Cordelia is his assistant...he throws parties with lots of girls around...always gets his way...Well he has his eye on Cordelia, and she has hers on him...they have a chemistry that they are both ignoring...he finds out that she is more than just a pretty face and has a mind for business..they have a moment, and kiss..he asks her on a date...But...he never shows at the fancy restaurant..Cordelia is super disappointed...West misses there date because he is almost murdered...Why? Because he is kind of a jerk, as I mentioned earlier....his company manufactures very advanced prosthetics and a disgruntled employee is trying to steal the technology...West catches him...and after almost dying he becomes..RECONSTRUCTED!!! LOL This really is a good story..and I am moving on to book 2 now!
"Building a Hero"
Not sure what the book was really about even when I read the description lol. But my guess that it's about the guy Westley being a hero and falling in love with Cordelia. Even though Wes is stubborn he learn to be nice to Cordelia and her siblings and save the kid Shawn from the bad guy (mind you I don't even remember the guy name). It's not even a bad thing cause I don't care to remember lol. But end the end the book is actually good. I can't wait to check out book two. This my first time hearing about this author and reading her book. I thought the book was about a man being some type of animal or maybe a guy with like armor body. But I guess Wes accident was similar to my guess.
THE TITLE REMINDS ME OF THE MOVIE "How To Build a Better boy'
"The New and Improved Bionic Man"
Reconstructed starts with Westley "West" Worthington as being a rich spoiled jerk. West has good looks, money, business savy, and women who are more interested in his social status. He has placed arm lengths with everyone he socialized with. He even treated his assistant, Cordelia Cross with indifferent at his pleasure.
Cordelia would rather worked anywhere than for West. But in order to pay for her sister's medical bill, Cordelia has putted up with West's callous behavior.
The attraction between West and Cordelia is there but their attraction doesn't seemed to go anywhere. West is callous and Cordelia hates him for it. When West discovered that Cordelia knew more about his biomedical company, Medical Prosthetics, he has a new found respects for her and decided to act upon their attraction to each other.
His courting of Cordelia is put on hold when West is injured during a break-in at his company. West is seriously injured and has to be reconstructed to be fully physically functional before the accident. Would the new improved West be worthy in Cordelia's eyes?
The narrator, Mason Lloyd does a wonderful job in narrating Reconstructed. I had to pause at very distraction because I didn't want to miss anything from the story.
Tasha Black has always out did herself when she writes a story. I can't wait to follow what will happen to West and Cordelia and the secondary character Edward Dalton, who is the head of security for West. Her characters, plots, and conflicts are very well developed within the story. She will leave her audience wanting more.
I was given this audiobook by the author/narrator/publisher via Audiobook Blast for an honest review. I was not compensated or influence in any way for writing this review.
"Build me a hero"
I loved this book‼️ Cordelia is trying to support her family and to help get a cure for her sister. But working for the wealthy playboy is no picnic. Westley is just living day to day, he works to make money and goes thru women like candy. This is a wonderful story of a woman growing in her self esteem and a man learning what really matters. Recommend to all action romantic love stories. It is a stand alone with a HFN ending.
"Make way for the new bionic man!"
I loved the change in West, going from total jerk to hero.
Can't think of any other books quite like this.
I absolutely adore Mason Lloyd ' s voice it really brings out the characters and allows visualization you can't get while reading.
The whole story was entrancing but that first glimpse of who West could be when Cord tricked him I to meeting the kids who would be receiving the Med Pro prosthetics really got me.
Westley Worthington is a first class a**hole and major player, the only reason Cordelia keeps working for him is Medical Prosthetics a subsidiary of Worthington Enterprises, and her sisters only hope of walking again. Unfortunately, Med Pro is losing money and West wants to sell it, Cordelia vows to convince him not to and in the process uncovers a side of him she never thought could exist, and she starts falling for him. Strangely enough West starts seeing Cordelia as far more his type than previous conquests. Just when things start heating up and getting serious espionage leaves West facing death. Great story full of suspense, action (not all of it in bedroom), romance, government plots, fascinating characters, and an entertaining story line guaranteed to delight cover to cover!!
Mason Lloyd is my favorite narrator, I could spend hours listening to him, oh wait I have! He has a wonderfully clear voice with great diction and tone, and he does an awesome job differentiating between characters!
"reconstructed in more ways than one yum!"
yes because the hero changes in such major ways through the story
when a little boy drew a picture of Westly as a superhero and he realized that no one cared where his dad earned his money, they cared that he was helping them.
nothing too extreme
There was a very small part where the story slowed just a little, but it didn't really impact the story badly. I loved how Westly changed so much and even behaving badly he noticed that just they way Cordelia walked conveyed how she felt about something. There is action, romance, tension, and a little of something for everyone. I can't wait to see what happens in the second book!
Yes! it's a cut Above most books out there. So much action, drama, mystery.
All of them they all mix so seamless and build off each other
Fantastic he doesn't just read it he acts it out like the author wanted us to understand the book!
Movie of the year!
This is a must read it's wonderful. It's so fresh and different. Miss Black has really created an amazing story here, so full of interesting Plots. I can't get over it I am just ...... wowed. Tasha Black is the queen! I can't wait for the next book.
I can honestly say I LOVE it. You got to read it you will not be disappointed.
"A Hero is Born ..."
Yes! Mr. Lloyd did a fantastic job with the narration. He was able to bring out the depth of the story and make you want to keep listening to the story. It was hard to turn it off.
The fact that West had the drive to continue after the accident. It seemed to give him a 'greater purpose'. It made him reevaluate his life and what he could do with it.
I really enjoyed both Cordelia and West. Mr. Lloyd was able to bring out the best qualities of each in his narration. I would love to listen to more of Mr. Lloyd's work.
After tragedy ... A Hero is Born!

Ms. Black has written a great start to this new series. She has created some well defined characters and her writing keeps you wanting more. I can't wait to see what happens in the next book!
I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
