Sometimes you don't mean to become another person. Sometimes the choice is made for you, and pretending is the only thing that keeps you going.
When Alexis Romera is taken and her kidnappers find her fake ID in her purse, she must become Sophia in order to keep her family safe. Revealing her real identity to the man she's sold to would be easy enough, but can she trust him? Hell-bent on avenging the murder of his uncle, Rebel doesn't seem all that interested in playing things safe. In fact nothing about the secretive, dark and brooding MC president seems safe at all.
What do you do when the man who raised you is murdered, and the only witness is kidnapped girl who's being sold as a sex slave? You buy her, of course. As president of the most powerful motorcycle club in America, Rebel isn't lacking in power. There are strings the man can pull, and entire criminal organisations and corporate businesses alike would fall to their knees.
However, along with such power comes intense interest. The DEA have their eye fixed solely on the MC...and they're just waiting for Rebel to trip up. Getting Sophia to testify is the only way to bring the Los Oscuros cartel down. The beautiful, dark-haired, dark-eyed woman is belligerent and uncooperative and unlikely to bend to his will, but Rebel has a few tricks up his sleeve to make her compliant - he'll charm her until she's bending over backwards to please him. Of course, falling for her might cause a few hiccups along the way....
Book one in the Dead Man's Ink Series. This audiobook contains strong ties with the Blood & Roses series.
Rebel is a contemporary romance story with occasional dark themes that some people might find confronting.

"Story was ok but the actors were TERRIBLE"
The story was ok. It has a lot of potential to be the beginning of a good series but the author needs to go beyond the cliché and flesh the characters out beyond stereotypes.
The voice actors were terrible. I couldn't quite believe how hilariously bad the male voice actor was. He sounds like a lispy nerd who is pretending to be cool. I laughed out loud whenever he was trying to sound tough or serious. He has no range whatsoever. I really can't believe they hired him. The female voice actor did get better as the book went on. She came across stiff and monotonous at times. I was extremely disappointed with both of them.
"Could have been better"
It was not a waste, but there are definitely some issues with the wording, ridiculous and sometimes ahead of itself. Also the narrator must be changed.
This is my first book by Callie Hart.
It was as if the book was written by two (2) different people. Sorry but the male voice did not deliver. The voice was took weak, slow and with a lisp. Very unbelievable and it threw the entire character off for me. When Kelly spoke I liked that version of rebel better. She could have narrated the entire book as she did all the voices better.
Yes, with new narrator or only female narration. The plot is there but it needs to be told better getting to the good parts. Its as if they are trying to be the characters instead of actually being them.
I prefer when the opposite character describes the other as so not to say "I am a bad ass but I do not say this to be cocky" Ridiculous. Let the other character describe them and it would come across way better then the character telling you how great/bad/smart etc. they are. Having them do this with such a weak voice and a lisp made it so unbelievable.
didn't like the male voice at first because of heavy breathing but it went away after the 1st chapter. overall, amazing book, cant wait for the next one to be released!!!
"Narration Ruined This Story"
Not the Audible edition. Male narrator talks too fast, and in no way comes across as a hot, sexy biker. Download the sample and see for yourself. Kelly did a great job with the female voice. This rating shouldn't reflect poorly upon her efforts.
No for Walles but yes for Kelly.
disappointed that you HAVE to purchase another book to see what happens with Sophia and Rebel.
"S.O.A. fans will love this series."
this is the closest series that I have found that is filling my S.O.A. withdrawal. I really enjoyed this series.
"Callie Hart never disappoints!"
I fell in love with Callie Hart's book when I read the Blood & Roses series. It was dark and edgy and completely enthralling. When I finished the series I immediately bought Rebel on my Kindle. Unfortunately, it got lost in the pile of unread books on my Kindle. Until I discovered Audible and realized I could catch up on the books I didn't have time to read. I didn't find Rebel as dark as Blood & Roses, but that was ok. This story has a different feel, but it's still incredibly intriguing. I'm very much enjoying being able to unravel Sophie's story. The narration is great. Easy to listen to and expressive.
"This is a cliffhanger"
I really hate when we are not informed that a book is a cliffhanger, Especially when they do not let you know the title and when to expect the next book. I would have rated it a 5 if it wasn't for that
"Refreshingly Innovative MC Storyline"
The author is a master of descriptive writing making her characters come alive with realism that I rarely if ever encountered in the MC genre. This is not a cozy book but more of a thriller without a litany of gun violence. I'm sooo tired of bang bang shoot em ups. The violence supported the realism of the storyline and was not included for its own sake. Although involving some romance, it was well placed, at the end, and did not carry the story. Surprisingly, the book dealt with some pretty serious, real subjects to include human trafficking not often encountered in this genre. I also enjoyed the concept of a egalitarian motorcycle club which included all races and women as members. This club's set up was not like that of a feudal lord and king thing. The narrator's accents, to include Spainish and southern gentleman, as well as her intonations were spot on.
The most enjoyable part was Sophia, alias, and Rebel's trip to his father's mansion in Alabama.
I did listen to it in one day as I was ill with a serious cold and this was a perfect diversion. It definitely gained and maintained my interest. Once I started it, I did not want to stop.
I'm looking forward to more stories in this series and will try some of the author's other books. This author is truly gifted.
"Not worth the time."
Performance of bad boy biker sounds more like boy with a fem lisp. In most of their situations a 10 year old would find it just to far fetched, just plain unbelievable.
