Jackie loves her family. Sure, her teenage children can be stroppy. Her husband a little lazy. And providing round-the-clock care for her Alzheimer's-ridden mother is exhausting. All Jackie wants is for her children to have brighter futures than she did. So long as Martha, the eldest, gets into university and follows her dreams, all her sacrifice will be worth something...won't it?

"Prowse handles her explosive subject with delicate skill.... Deeply moving and inspiring." (Daily Mail)
"A powerful page-turner." (Closer)
Brilliant story about an ordinary family that I think everyone can relate to.
I loved them all, little Jonty was hilarious! But Pete comes across as lovely. Jacks is fab and her friend Gina funny, can't choose one...
Jacks. She sounded warm and lovely. I took every step with her.
Every woman's story...
Thoroughly enjoyed this, can't recommend highly enough. You hear it said, but I really did laugh and cry. Prowse is a natural story teller. Brilliant, just brilliant.
This book has been a pleasure to listen to. There are many twists and turns and it surprises you so many times. It also takes you further into the story than most modern fiction does and you see what happens after the main theme has finished.
Loved the Narrator, her accent made the story all the more believable. Story was heartfelt and so true to life with all the families ups and downs. Felt I could relate to the characters and they were all likeable in their own way and all brought the story together so well. They got there in the end and there was the happy ending I had been waiting for. Would recommend to friends and family.
The narration by Amanda Prowse was excellent but I am unlikely to try another book by the same author - the story was too predictable and the characters too extreme, and not really believable.
The basic stroy was OK but there was no subtlety in the way it was written; the dialogue was clunky and the characters' actions and reactions were overplayed
I thought Amanda Prowse did a good job
It was just about worth it, but I couldn't recommend it as anything other than a beach read.
This story is very good but slightly predictable. I liked the interaction with the aging mother and the fact that women have no time, but I did guess the end half way through. On saying that it is a good listen, and Amanda Prowse reads her own book very well.
Retired Psychologist Love reading/audiobooks, travelling, animals Favourite saying The fact that you believe something does not make it true
I haven't heard her before, but she was extremely good.
This engaged me early on, but then went a little flat for me. I was seriously considering returning it, when in chapter 20, it suddenly picked up and was very good to the end. If the rest of the book had done the job as well as the later chapters, it would have justified 4*.
this book was awonderful story ,had you guessing to the end Amanda Prowse is a brilliant writer, also her naration was brilliant loved it patricia.
