Summary

Ambitious and addictive, Only Time Will Tell is the first novel in Jeffrey Archer’s The Clifton Chronicles, beginning the epic tale of Harry Clifton, a working-class boy from the docks of Bristol. Read by Emilia Fox, known for her role in Silent Witness, and Roger Allam.

It is 1920, and against the backdrop of a world ravaged by conflict, Harry’s story begins with the words ‘I was told that my father was killed in the war’. Harry’s existence is defined by the death of his father and he seems destined to a life on the docks until a remarkable gift wins him a scholarship to an exclusive boys school and entry into a world he could never have envisaged.

Over the course of twenty years, as the Second World War and the fight against Hitler draws nearer, Harry will learn the awful truth about his father’s death and of his own connections to a powerful shipping family, the Barringtons. And in doing so, he will change his destiny forever . . .

Richly imagined and populated with remarkable characters, The Clifton Chronicles will take you on a powerful journey, bringing to life one hundred years of family history in a story neither you, nor Harry, could ever have dreamt of.

Continue the bestselling series with The Sins of the Father and Best Kept Secret.

I have a new love. Simply breathtaking.

Any additional comments?

Now, I recently read J.K. Rowling's first two books written for adults, Casual Vacancy and Cuckoo's Calling. I hadn't enjoyed reading books so much for such a long time as I did with these two, and never thought I would come across storytelling like it ever again. that was until I read my first ever Jeffrey Archer book (I know!) Only time will tell.

Words do not do justice to how much I enjoyed listening to this book. The storyline was riveting, unpredictable and kept me interested throughout the entire book.
Archer really is a cut above the rest with his storytelling capabilities, he knows how to keep the reader enthralled and interested the whole time. The plot is so engrossing and I enjoyed the characters of the book thoroughly. I bought the second instalment the minute I finished this one, and I'm confident the review will be just as positive as this one has been.

If you enjoy good fictional reading, I promise you won't be disappointed with this audiobook.

Couldn't Put Down

It has been years since I have read a Jeffrey Archer book. But I needed a break from what I had been reading lately.

What a great choice and a great book. I loved every twist and turn and the story in general. I shall be buying the whole series.

Go on and do yourself a favour and read a really good book. I'd forgotten how much I loved his style of writing . If you've never read any of his books read Cane and Able first because it's a real page turner as this book turned out to be.

I just hope the follow up books are as good but I see no reason why they shouldn't be.

Archer Master Storyteller

This is an excellent audiobook, its easy to listen to, very easy to follow, and really is Archer at his best as a story teller. The ending is of course the teaser for the next book, which Archer I believe referred to as his pension for the future. I don't blame him if you can write a tale like this, and look forward to the next installment. I thoroughly enjoyed it, it may not be hip to claim to enjoy JA, or intellectual enough, but thats tosh and nonsense as this was a great way to spend 12 hours in the car. Well done Jeffrey Archer. Highly recommended
