Steven Ashton, a billionaire from New York, and Emily Grant, on the run from the law... and when they meet he can't help falling for her. What he doesn't know is that interfering in her life will put his own life in danger. When billionaire Steven Ashton couldn't stand his high society social life anymore, he left the stress of New York on a vacation for his soul. The need to meet real down to earth people led him to a small Nebraska town. He didn't want to lie about who he was, but he couldn't exactly tell them the truth.
Emily could have easily fallen in love with Steven, under different circumstances, but her past was catching up with her and she needed a new life. If the authorities found out about her, she could lose the one thing that meant everything, her four year old son. Not What She Seems is a "sweet" romantic suspense, appropriate for all ages.

"Narrator reads like a second grader!"
I bought this forgetting that I had already read it. I liked the book and the twists in the mystery. However, this narrator nearly ruined the story. He reads very choppy and flat with no emotion. I'm shocked that this audio book was released with him reading it. It was actually painful to listen to. I paid $1.99 and that was too much. The story is good - READ the book.
Since the book was ruined by the narration, I would have to go back and READ the book to remember what I liked best. But probably the mystery part of the book is better and more believable than the romance.
Choppy, flat, unemotional. Reads like someone who is not used to reading aloud. Not good qualities for an audio book.
"Narrator ruined it"
The story might actually be better than I've rated. The problem with an audible version is that if the narrator doesn't have the right voice, tone, cadence, etc., it's difficult to separate that from the story. I had to put the speed up to 1.25x just to be able to get beyond the mechanical, computer-like reading.
"Change the Narrator!!!"
Great story with unexpected twists. However the narrator was THE WORST ever. The robotic over pronunciation was almost unbearable. The book would be infinitely better with even a mediocre narrator.
The story line was decent, but the narrator sounds like a grown mans voice trapped in a 1st graders body...the absolute worst reading I've ever endured.
"very good book"
the book was soo good, the story line was excellent and most of the time I can figure out who did it but this one kept me guessing to the end. I didn't love the narrator though.
"Not a bad story - narration was distracting"
Overall the story was decent, not the best but not horrible. What really bothered me was the narration - something just seemed off & was very distracting. It almost felt as if the narrator was reading a bit too slowly and over pronouncing the words.
"This story is better read"
I have and would read or listen to another book by Victorine E. Lieske. It would be hard to listen to another book narrated by Jacob Aaron Miller unless it was a story about a computer told in first voice.
Steven Ashton because he just keeps trying to make things work. He has compassion and drive.
Just about anyone else except for myself. There is now way I could read as good as Jacob Aaron Miller. That being said he is the worst narrator I have listened too.
Yes I think I would go the see this story if it was a movie. I could easily picture the scenes in the story and it would be easy to film. In fact it is written like a screen play.
There are some parts in the story that don't make sense. The bad guy has a knife and has planed to kill the good guy. When the good guy falls into his trap instead of stabbing the good guy the bad guy hits the good guy with a two by four. What where did that come from?
The person doing the narration was terrible. It literally sounded like he was struggling to read the book. I couldn't even listen to the whole book.
Yes! New narrator and I might be interested.
