Publisher's Summary

Men are optional. That's the credo Emma Chandler's suffragette aunts preached and why she started a successful women's colony in Harper's Station, Texas. But when an unknown assailant tries repeatedly to drive them out, Emma admits they might need a man after all. A man who can fight - and she knows just the one.

Malachi Shaw finally earned the respect he craved by becoming an explosives expert for the railroad. Yet when Emma's plea arrives, he bolts to Harper's Station to repay the girl who once saved his life. Only she's not a girl any longer. She's a woman with a mind of her own and a smile that makes a man imagine a future he doesn't deserve. As the danger intensifies, old feelings grow and deepen, but Emma and Mal will need more than love to survive.

"No Other Will Do: Ladies of Harper's Station #1"

I love the concept of a female colony where women can seek sanctuary and build a new life. I am looking forward to more audio-books in this series.

I really enjoyed this narrator and hope that she is used for future audio-books.

No foul language. Good morals and great suspense. The narrator kept all the voices distinct and inflections very well done.

"Excellent writing! No Other Will Do:"
What made the experience of listening to No Other Will Do the most enjoyable?

I love Karen Witemeyer's writing style. Engaging story, memorable characters, humor, and of course the romance.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I think the hero Malachi Shaw is my favorite character. I like his sense of loyalty to Emma and the Aunts. He is stubborn but lovable, able to keep calm in high-stress situations. He shows respect, the kind he didn't get at their age, to the younger men and boys that he works with, particularly Andrew, a young boy devoted to Malachi. He learns that he is not alone and that he can love and be loved.
I also really liked Aunt Bertie. She was the easy going Aunt until she wanted something. She showed a little bit of spunk when necessary!

What does Johanna Parker bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I liked Johanna Parker's narration. She brought just the right dramatic feel. I do sometimes wish Audible would have male and female narrators for these books. While Johanna did a good job with the male voices they were very similar.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I felt moved when Malachi picked up Flora and carried her back toward the town. Despite what she had done. Despite his desire to save Emma. He remained calm and just put one foot in front of the other.

    Any additional comments?

I really enjoyed listening to No Other Will Do. There were a few times where a sentence or two were repeated. That was a bit distracting. Otherwise, it is a great story. I look forward to more stories from the Ladies of Haper's Station.

    "Mixed Feelings"

Story was good. It had adventure, suspense, mystery, romance... Yet, the narrators voice was really hard to listen to. It grated on my nerves and seemed unnatural; too breathy and didn't fit most of the time. Worth a listen if you don't mind the narrator.
