Sometimes to move forward you need to seek a new beginning.
As a psychic, Jess Abrams knew pack life would fall into a downward spiral if she stayed after a drunken mistake. Her alpha was never going to sell her the bar she'd managed for years, and sleeping with him only ensured he would treat her worse. Taking life by the reins, she decides on a fresh start.
Edenton's Alpha is more than happy to sell the vacant bar to the new werewolf. Years ago Slater lost his first mate. Now he avoids dating his wolves to prevent possible heartache.
Their attraction is unexpected and the last thing either wants. Resisting their obvious connection may prove impossible.
There's a problem. Someone is plotting against Slater, wanting to take the pack for himself. He'll use anything, or anyone, to achieve his goal.

I loved this book I also have the others of this series plus I have them in book form and love to read when have time give it a try you'll love this one and the others
Reading is a passion and an obsession.
I received a complimentary copy of this audiobook from the author in return for an honest review.
I previously read and reviewed this book in December last year and gave it 4 stars. However, the author approached me to see if I would like to listen to this book in audiobook format. As I have been listening to a lot more books in this way, I agreed. I am glad I did, as I enjoyed it more! This is an amended review to the one I made in December.
This book is narrated by Kelley Hazen Story Teller Productions. I really enjoyed her interpretation of the characters, especially Jess, as I struggled to like her when I originally read the story. Kelley Hazen's reading voice is lovely to listen to. I love her diction and she gave each character their own voice, which brought them to life. This helped me see them in a different light as to how I pictured them in my own mind originally. I would definitely listen to more books narrated by this lady in the future.
Jess is a character I didn't like when I originally read the story, but since listening to the audiobook, she has grown on me. She didn't seem as whiny as my mind made her out to be originally. It just goes to show how people can read the same story and have completely different reaction depending on their mood at the time! However, I still found her a bit hypocritical. She is a werewolf, who also happens to be a psychic. She is determined, feisty and a force to be reckoned with, especially since she can see flashes of the future. However, she also has a tendency to meddle in the lives of her friends quite a bit, but doesn't like it when others to do the same to her.
Slater is the Alpha of the wolf pack. I really liked this man. He is a tough but fair leader, who has a sense of honour and is respected by his pack. When Jess comes to Edenton, he doesn't know what to make of the instant attraction he feels for her.
I have a huge passion for erotic paranormal romances and was looking forward to listening to this one. I still found the dialogue to be a bit melodramatic and too "teenage angst-y" for grown adult characters. Jess treats most of the pack, apart from Brody, with disdain, as if they are not worth her time. What Slater sees in her is a mystery to me, as she treats him worse than the others at times. Granted, she doesn't want to be attracted to her Alpha (and I get that), but as she can see them together in the future, why she treats him the way she does confuses me. She also tends to whine when things aren't going the way she wants them to. But, as this is the prequel to the main series, the story introduces the reader to most of the main characters who will feature more in the main story arc; they are all fascinating characters. The story is told through several points of view, which made it a quite interesting experience. There is danger and romance aplenty in this book. The heat between Jess and Slater fairly burned the pages, even as they fight their mutual attraction. The characters came to life and, due to the vivid descriptions, I felt like I was there, watching the scenes unfold. Liam is a character who made my skin crawl. He is a very emotionally unsteady person, with a seriously dangerous streak. His obsession with being Alpha made me wonder if he was brainwashed, delusional, or both.
The ending left me looking forward to continuing the series and, as I have already read In Too Deep, I am looking forward to reading Shadows of the Past as soon as possible.
Brandy L. Rivers has written an intriguing start to a series. I loved her fast paced writing style, and the flow was wonderful. Unfortunately, the melodramatic dialogue was the only thing that let this story down, in my opinion. However, with that being said, I would definitely read more of her books in the future.
Due to explicit scenes of a sexual nature, I do not recommend this book to readers under the age of 18. However, I do recommend this book if you love hot erotic paranormal romances full of werewolves, vampires, fae, druids etc. - Lynn Worton
I love reading the book but to listen to it on audio was just amazing and the narrate just made all the characters come to life in this book!!!
When Jess had a vision of her and Slater in water she was having a mind blowing time!!!
Just so love this amazing book!!! Jess is my favor in this story she the kind of wolf who needs no man to take care of her. And there is Slater the Alpha in Edenton who takes great care of his pack but make it know he does not date or mess with any of the female wolves in or out of his pack. To know more about this book grad your copy today so so so a must read!!!!!
"The lead female is girl crush material."
I can't compare the two different formats. I really enjoyed the audio edition, but I love reading paperbacks too.
Trying to stay spoiler free I'll say I liked Jess' spunk.
Slater. her take on his whispery voice is perfect.
Yes. I listened to whilst driving and I found my self stopped and still listening long after I had arrived a my destination.
This is my favourite book of The Others of Edenton series. I just love Jess and Slater's story.
"A GREAT para alpha book!"
I am not a paranormal reader. I have only read a few and most of those Vampires and often I am not in love with them. So while I am not a normal para reader I am incredibly well versed in the Alpha male. I love an alpha and to be honest was worried how that would translate into one that then became a creature. I was convinced I would hate it, that it would creep me out and that I would not be able to finish it. For these reasons until recently I never gave these books a shot. But thanks to my friends and para lovers (Rebecca and Amie) and their ever persistent selves I decided to give this para novella a shot.
I cannot THANK them enough. From the moment this started I was gripped. It had all the makings of a gripping and exciting Alpha story with this whole new aspect that honestly just added to and exaggerated the qualities of an Alpha Male that I personally am drawn to. I love how Alpha books are often a about couples that are what I call "Quick to Love" this is only exaggerated when you add in the wolf "mating" aspect. The way mating is described and plays out just makes it that much better. Then there is the protectiveness that comes with an Alpha, add that to animalistic instinct and you have a man who is protective on a whole new level.
New Beginnings revolves around a female wolf looking to start over in a new pact, Jess. She is determined to make it on her own and knows she doesn't need a man to do that. Slater is the Alpha of her new pack and after losing his first mate he does not get involved with ANY of the WOLVE females. Watching these two fight off what everyone can see is inevitable is almost as much fun as watching them give into it!
There is something to be said when reading a work of fiction to just giving into what you consider implausible concepts and going with them. Part of the reason I have never read much para before is because I can't imagine it in the real world but once I let go of that hang up I got so completely wrapped in the story that the parts that were the most out there for me quickly started to be the parts I was falling in love with.
Now I have since both read and listened to this book and I adored the audio. The narrator, Kelly Hazen, did an amazing job of keeping the story moving at just the right pace. Every time I had to pause the book to get back to real life I was dying to find time to start it back. I would really encourage both lovers of paranormal books as well as those who have not yet given them a shot to read this short, fast, and exciting book.
I prefer the print version to the audio version. I found it hard to get past the female narration of the book.
When everything finally went down in the bar from Jess's vision.
How the vision actually played out in the bar.
Unfortunately not. I think if the book would of been in the male narrative, I would of devoured it in one sitting.
Yes...most definitely! It's incredibly amazing!
Action-packed with a perfect balance of drama and hotness!
I am addicted to this series! Totally, completely and irrevocably HOOKED. I’m also in love with the characters and the general story they all create. Brandy L Rivers is an author you simply cannot miss!
While this is book #.5 in the series, I started with In Too Deep which is book #1 and then jumped to book #5, Mending Scars. This back-and-forth thing did NOT affect my connection to the books….at all. However, I’ve now gone back to the beginning and am now reading/listening to them in order, and I must say, my connection is even stronger.
I had the honor of listening to the Audible version of New Beginnings and let me just say – WOW! The narrator did a superb job with all the voices and emotions! The story was literally brought to life and I loved every minute of it. I did not want to stop listening to it! I took my iPad and headphones everywhere and listened to the book every chance I got! AMAZING. Unputdownable!
Now, about this amazing story…
The best thing Jess ever did was moving to Edenton and getting a fresh, new start away from her alpha. She had made the drunken mistake of sleeping with him and his cockiness only got worse. He never really valued her to begin with, he only wanted to own her. Edenton’s alpha, Slater, was a whole different story. While he wasn’t looking to start anything with any of the wolves in his pack, he couldn’t help but feel a very strong connection to Jess from the very beginning.
Despite them both fighting their very strong urges, they were meant to be together…one way or another. Now, you must understand, Jess was also a physic, so while she ‘saw’ Slater in her future, she wasn’t entirely aware of everything that was about to happen. And let me tell you – New Beginnings was action-packed with a perfect balance of drama and hotness! Every scene kept me fully invested, wanting more! And being able to hear the story, made it even more real.
This books, this entire series, is a MUST READ. Top recommendation to any romance reader – whether or not you read Paranormal, you need to check these gems out! FIVE STARS!
"Loved it, didn't want to get out of my car..."
yes, it was so good!
Jess by far because she is exactly as I think women should be, strong and not afraid to get stuff done on her own without a man.
I loved it when Slater would get all frustrated and flustered.
again chapters off audio say chapter 16 when its chapter 17
"New Beginnings Review"
Yes, I already have :-)
I liked the whole concept of an almost forbidden love between Slater and Jess.
I like the fact that Kelley got into character and took us into the book the way every author wishes would happen.
When Jess had the vision of her and Slater being "sort of" married to each other with the tattoos on there ring fingers.
"Awesome job by all!"
Loved the book! Amazing job on narration! recommend this book!!!!!!! I recommend all of Brandi's books! She is a GREAT Author!
I really liked this book, New beginnings, I thought jess was a strong minded and independent woman. I like how she takes no bull shit. Slater is the perfect Alfa and man for her, I think it's important that they challenge each other. I can't find anything I didn't like or would improve on. very enjoyable.
"Good Book and Excellent Narrating"
The Narration as well as the plot line.
She brought the characters even more to life than the author had already done.
