Summary
Henry Howarth, the Earl of Grinstead, cares for no one. Caring causes pain and he has experienced enough of that to last a lifetime. Spying for king and country keeps his mind focused and his heart firmly locked away. Miss Millicent Holland is a companion, running away from her past. Joshua Shambles is out to get revenge and he is a man with no conscience. Unwittingly, Henry puts Milly in danger and feels compelled to protect her, refusing to acknowledge it is anything other that duty that is motivating him. Dealing with the past while facing the real dangers of the present, Henry and Milly are tested beyond anything they have experienced before. Both will be changed beyond recognition in this novel of love and loss.

Romantic and entertaining
Would you listen to My Earl the Spy again? Why?
Yes, I would absolutely listen to this again. I loved the two main characters, the suspense and intrigue. Also, the narration was excellent. I always enjoy books performed by Melanie Fraser and I am enjoying this series immensely. Her voice really suits this genre and she is a very easy listen.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
Millie and the Earl are two very likeable characters and I enjoyed watching the pair get to know each other and fall in love. The fact that Millie's life was in danger added to the excitement and kept me hooked. I loved all the suspense towards the end of the book and the romantic ending left me feeling good and happy.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I found it very difficult to stop listening to this book once I'd started, so yes I would have enjoyed spending my day listening to this book.
Any additional comments?
I'd recommend listening to the first book, My Lord the Spy, first- simply because it's equally as good and the characters, including the villain, are introduced there.
Listeners who prefer historical romance without 'the naughty bits' will appreciate and enjoy this book.

All you would expect of a Regency Romance
Audrey Harrison has written the quintessential Regency romance without the usual high society season full of frilly debutants. It ticks most of the expected boxes with a "shelved" woman of elegance and wit, a Lord with masculine pursuits including being a spy, a little intrigue and action, a kidnapping, chemistry between the two protagonists, a broken engagement and a little misunderstanding. Commencing where the previous book in the series ended, this book focuses on Millie and Henry, two interesting and rather dynamic personalities. (Perhaps that is what makes them work so well together.) I think reading/listening to the first book would be advisable, though not necessary, to clarify the connections between many of the characters and provide the back story that leads to the events in this one.
I enjoyed listening to the book. It was a rather chaste read by modern standards, though the reputations of several characters would have been comoletely ruined if the events in this book became public knowledge during the Regency era. Millie's character challenges the socially acceptable woman of that era. She is smart, hardworking, brave, calm and strong. It is her strength that gives the book substance and makes the story a worthwhile experience.

Disappointing second book
This story does follow my lord the spy so suggest reading that first. unfortunately this story felt quite dragged out.

I'm very happy to recommend this
I am loving this series by the skilled author, Audrey Harrison and the most entertaining narration by the very entertaining narrator, Melanie Fraser. Such a talented pair.
The Earl, Henry, has his heart firmly locked away but as the story unfolds he show glimpses of a warm and loving heart.
Milli, a lady of 28 years of age, is a loving and caring person who has lost all hope of finding a husband and has resigned herself to this.
Henry and Milli meet again (they also appear in book 1 of this series) and the sparks begin to fly. She isn't willing to settle for second best and he is being over-cautious with his heart.
This is a beautiful and heart-warming story about how two people fall in love.
I hope you enjoy this book/audiobook as much as I have. It is a great pairing up of the skills of author and narrator and I am very happy to recommend it.
I was voluntarily provided a review copy of the audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator and this is my unbiased review.

Clean romance.
Any additional comments?
I read the first book and loved it. So I jumped at the chance to listen to the next in the series when I saw the audio book.
I didn't really like Henry in the first book and I didn't like him at the beginning of the next book. I felt like slapping him at times, however as the book progressed he changes.
I really liked Millicent and felt sorry for her at times. But showed that she is a strong character and I love how she dealt with certain people in the story.
I would recommend this book to all since there is no bad language or sexual content with some mild violence.
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.

Tedious
The author has the choice of characters and careers, why choose one that makes the Hero a totally failure?
If he is an example of English Spies, it is a wonder they won any war.
The Heroine should have run for the hills on meeting him. She first mets him, when he puts her family in danger, then he endangers her.
Luckily she and her family manage to survive due to their resilience.
Not worth a credit as the major theme is frustrating and stupid.
The narrator is tedious and boring, is it the story or the Narrator?
