It is the dawn of the 18th century. At the farthest edges of the known world, the mighty Honourable East India Company suffers near-catastrophic losses from pirates on the high seas.
After four years away from service, master mariner Sir Henry Courtney prepares for his latest and most dangerous voyage: a death or glory mission in the name of Empire and the Crown.
But Hal must also think about the fate of his four sons, who are all very different. But each will have a crucial part to play in shaping the family's destiny. Separated by the winds of hazard, adventure will rule their future, just as passion will forge their lives.

"Once again the veteran author creates a masterful tale of action and suspense set on the high seas, arid deserts and steaming jungles....Clever plot twists and lavish historical detail attend the siblings' adventures as they battle pirates, slavers, assassins, their own government and each other." (Publishers Weekly)
There are few people in this world that enjoy Wilbur's books more than I but this is absolutely terrible.
"Abridged" should be replaced with "Chopped into three dozen pieces and you only get 1 of them to listen to"
"Abridged versions fall short"
This is my favorite book which goes back to my childhood. The sense of adventure in new lands perfectly painted thrilled me to the core. Pirates on the high seas, a young man finding his way through fortune and misfortune. Unfortunately the stolen words unspoken by the narration leaves the tale empty and hollow.
