Jane Austen's beloved characters return in this novella, a contemporary variation on Pride and Prejudice, one of the most popular novels in English literature. Doctor Lizzie Bennet, struggling against her conservative English countryside upbringing, determines to prove her worth as a dog psychologist. Nothing will deter her from her career until she meets the uppity and oh-so mysterious Londoner, Mister Darcy. His on-again, off-again flirtatious manner, and his pompous putdowns challenge Lizzie's short temper.
When Mister Darcy hires her to train his lovable basset hounds for an important foxhunt, Lizzie accepts the task despite knowing next to nothing about the sport and harboring an intense fear of horses. Two of the villains Austen fans love to boo and hiss arrive to torment Lizzie: Caroline Bingley, in hot pursuit of Mister Darcy does all she can to discredit and humiliate Lizzie. Mister Darcy's old nemesis, George Wickham, stalks the Bennet family. Will Lizzie keep her focus or succumb to her fate? And what, pray tell, is her fate? "A fun romp through the English countryside"
Yes, it's extremely witty and enjoyable. The narrator had an excellent voice which was perfect for the story.
It's pretty incomparable in my experience, sort of like the illegitimate offspring of Jane Austen and Monty Python.
She is the perfect person to narrate this story. Her upper crust British accent and dry delivery made this story very amusing.
I laughed out loud several times while listening to this story. The escapades of Lizzie's younger sisters were especially funny.
I really enjoyed this story. I've just downloaded the kindle version of Mister Darcy's Christmas, in order to continue to read about these characters. I will be hearing Karen Krause's voice in my head, as I read it.
"An Exciting Cozy Mystery!"
This is an exciting cozy mystery featuring Mr Darcy, the owner of some dogs and Lizzy Bennett, Dog Psychologist. Lizzy is hired to teach Mr Darcy's dogs to hunt so they can be ready for an annual foxhunt. While preparing for the foxhunt, Mr Darcy's sister and Lizzy's sisters disappear and they must chase after them to stop a wedding.
I really enjoyed listening to this story. I love animal book as it is. The author, Barbara Silkstone did a really good job writing this tale. The plot was exciting and kept my interest thru entire story. The narrator, Karen Krouse did an excellent job delivery this novella with her multiple voices (including accents) which I found to be very entertaining! Good job ladies!
"Be prepared for a real coffee snorter"
If you're looking for a serious (really?) Pride and Prejudice knockoff, you are most decidedly in the wrong place! This is a contemporary version and a real funfest!
Of course, Darcy is obscenely rich, but Lizzie Bennet is PhD dog psychologist. Her sisters are a mess, his is manipulative, Wickham is looney, Caroline is (of course) an a$$. And Darcy's pampered pet bassetts are just delightful. See publisher's blurb for clues without spoilers.
The audio version is masterfully rendered by Karen Krause who totally adds to the snarks and puns.
I bought this in Whispersync on the cheap.
"Fun and Delightful Book!"
This is the first book in The Mister Darcy series by Barbara Silkstone and narrated by Karen Krause. This book is so much fun and such great characters. This book is a contemporary variation of Jane Austen’s beloved characters. Doctor Lizzie Bennet is determined to prove her worth as a dog psychologist. She will let nothing deter her from her career until she meets the mysterious Londoner, Mister Darcy.
The narrator Karen Krause, did a great job, and was very easy to listen too. This is the first time I have listened to this narrator, and I am looking forward to listening to more books by her. She did a great job with the different characters and their voices.
If you are looking for a great book with wonderful characters, then you need to get this book! I am looking forwarded to listening to the next book in series.
A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
"love this series"
Jack the ripper
Love love these characters. Lizzy is a middle class dog psychologist hired to train mister Darcy's dogs..lots of romping in the woods, missing teenagers, and tons of funny.
"Fun New Series!!"
This book is the first in a new series by Barbara Silkstone. I thought this book was a cozy, relaxing read, and really enjoyed the audio version. The characters were relatable and fun. Mr Darcy hires Lizzy to train his two Bassett Hounds for a fox hunt, and the outcome is hilarious!! Looking forward to find out what happens in the next book.
"Fun and frolic with Lizzie, Darcy and two pups!"
Mr. Darcy's Dogs is a very cute, tongue in cheek update on the classic Pride and Prejudice novel by Jane Austen. In this retelling, Lizzie Bennet is a doctor (presumably from earning a Ph.D.) who is working as a dog psychologist. Our first glimpse of Lizzie is at a Westminster-type Dog Show where she is known as a "dog whisperer." Mister Darcy hires Lizzie to train two basset hound pups to fox hunt and mayhem ensues.
Karen Krause’s narration is simply fantastic. She really brings the characters to life, using a variety of accents and giving each character their own distinct voice. She is also able to switch genders and generations with ease.
"A cute modern twist"
I really enjoyed Lizzie. I liked how she was independent. I also liked how she was able to put Caroline in her place without being mean about it.
As this book is a short novella, under 4 hours, I find that it would be great for a car trip or a lazy day around the house.
Mr. Darcy's Dogs is a cute modern twist on Pride and Prejudice. I'm not a big Austen fan so I'm not familiar with the original book that these characters are based on. That being said, I didn't have any problems staying engaged in the story.
Ms. Krause is a lovely narrator. She gives each character their own voice and the pacing was very good. She had me drawn into the story and kept me wanting more. I can't wait to listen to more work by Ms. Krause.
"Delightful and charming"
Amusing, entertaining, delightful
Aunt. We never meet her, but the threat was intriguing
She brought the characters to life with her accent.
"Mister Darcy's Dogs"
This was a fun little romp thru the world of dogs, dog whisperers and Fox hunts.Using characters from the Pride and Predjudice book,Barbara Silkstone weaves a tale od people with different personalities that can,in the end, think alike.
Karen Krause did a fine job with the narration.
