Publisher's Summary

Misery Chastain was dead. Paul Sheldon had just killed her - with relief, with joy. Misery had made him rich; she was the heroine of a string of best sellers. And now he wanted to get on to some real writing.

That's when the car accident happened, and he woke up in pain in a strange bed. But it wasn't the hospital.

Annie Wilkes had pulled him from the wreck, brought him to her remote mountain home, splinted and set his mangled legs. The good news was that Annie was a nurse and had painkilling drugs. The bad news was that she was Paul's Number One Fan. And when she found out what Paul had done to Misery, she didn't like it. She didn't like it at all. And now he had to bring Misery back to life. Or else....

    "Scary !!! and Wonderful"

A brilliantly scary story, wonderfully read by Lindsay Crouse, which using interesting themes and metaphors demonstrates a master class in writing. (Such as the tides being compared to pain)! Demonstrating Stephen Kings excellent style. There are shocking screens which make me want to see the movie and a story within the story of “misery returns”. Moreover, it really keeps the listener captivate even when our hero finally thinks he’s free.

One warning! Don’t read this if you are recovering from an illness in bed!

    "Simply brilliant listen"

This audio book makes the film look like a Disney movie! It's so much darker, scarier and brutal. A real horror classic.

    "favourite author with excellent narration"

a great King story, (so much better than the film), with excellent gripping narration, i usually take a while to adjust to the narrators style but this was so natural and a perfect fit to the story that it took no adjustment at all- one of the best so far. Character voices were consistent, great sound quality, and there were no obvious breaks and no speech quirks to notice. sometimes, in other stories, i got the impression the narrator had been in a different mood on different days of recording, but here the reading was as though it had been done all in one. I usually prefer longer stories, so this ended sooner than i would have liked, but thats because I miss the characters when the book ends- the length suits the story perfectly. Highly recommended.

    "Another Stephen King Classic"

A great story of suspense and depth. One of Stephen King's best. I didn't quite understand the ending but maybe it went over my head a bit.
Despite the narrator's similar inflection in her reading throughout the entire story, it was still well-read.

    "Great book"

This is a great book, better and a lot more gruesome than the film. Very well narrated. The narrator really brings the characters to life especially Annie...

"Misery… The best book I have read in a long time."

I have always respected Stephen King as an author but have always found his attention detail slightly intimidating but I feel like have just suddenly got it why this guy has legions of fans which I am now one! His characters are well rounded it is both terrifying from a horror perspective but also from a psychological perspective . He makes u care about the characters even ANNIE Don't read alone!

    "Gripping Story and Audio"

I am currently studying this book along with 'The Collector' by John Fowles for my advanced higher English dissertation and in my opinion this audio version makes reading Misery even more of an enjoyable and unnerving experience!

    "Amazing Book, Amazing Audio Book"

The best book I have ever listened to, the narrator voiced each character very well. The story keeps you on the edge of your seat, you feel like you're there with Paul; a writer kidnapped by a psychopathic fan.
