Book 1 in the series Men of August
Marly's love for Cade has spanned her teenage years, and survived strong and intact into womanhood. Her fantasies and daydreams have sustained her, but she's no longer content with merely imagining the touch of his hands, the taste of his kiss. It's time to seduce the tough, sexy cowboy. She's heard the rumors for years, the tales of his sexual preferences. She's prepared herself to accept his desires. Prepared her body for his touch. But she wasn't prepared for the choice to come...
Cade's dark desires, his sexual excesses are based in the past. In a time when pain, shame, and blood stains his very soul. He carries a secret shared only with his brothers. A secret that has scarred the bond, the ability to be a brother or to accept the love of the men he was raised with. He knows the only way to prove his loyalty, his love for those brothers and Marly will be the key. She has a choice. She can surrender to Cade's needs, his soul deep desires, or she can walk away. A choice only Marly can make. A choice that will change her life forever.

Spoiler alert: I felt the plot of this book trivialized childhood abuse. There were dozens of other ways to create a storyline in which 3 brothers want to share a ménage. Rather than being about pleasure or friendship or adventure, these grown brothers want to have sex with the same woman in order to heal from being sexually abused as boys. Really??? Despite Lora Leigh's ability to create interesting characters and settings, this plot was too depressing to be enjoyable to me.
"Hot, but narrator was really flat!"
The narrator was almost robotic, like she was reading the story for the first time. Not enough emotion, flat and bland.
I love Lora Leigh! Great series!
Narrating.....not that good.
"Narrators make all the difference in audible books"
I often wonder why some narrators do not familiarize themselves with characters prior to lending their voice to a book and why they do not pre-read chapters and take note of the proper placement of voice inflections. This is another case of dead narration and stupid accents assigned to the wrong characters. This was a sludge for me to get through because of the narration even at 1.5 speed. I will not continue the series because of the narrator and I have added her to my list of narrators to avoid.
Maybe I have become spoiled by great narrators such as Jim Frangione, Armand Schultz & George Guidall. Oh well, on to the next search for interesting story tellers and fun novels to enjoy during my long daily commutes and evening relaxation.
Love this series so far. can't wait to listen to the rest of them. :-)
"Just as good as when I read it"
Pretty high seeing as it was one of my favorite books and it's just as good in audio.
I don't think there is anything I can compare it to.
When Marly and Cade finally have sex.
Hot, steamy, love.
This is a Very sexually charged Three Brothers and one Female book so if you can not handle the thought of all they can do with her sexually best stay away.... It also touches on the subject of Sexual Abuse...
Cade August had taken Marly McCall in when she was just a small child with nowhere else to go. She had become family to him, his brothers Sam and Brock. Now that she was older in college, Cade was feeling more than brotherly toward Marly, and it horrified him because he thought those feelings were wrong. He didn't think she could handle the man he had become. He has darker sexual tastes, and is a complete dominant. There is also another secret he has tried to keep from her, and that is the fact he shares his women with his brothers.
Marley suffered at he hands of a sexually abusive step father until coming to live with the 3 brothers. She always loved Cade and as she grew older love turned to lust and want as well. Marly knew Cade still saw her as a child, and she was determined to entice him so that he saw her for the woman she was. He was not able to resist her for long when she mounted a full on seducing assault on him...........
"Total cheese....but that's what I wanted"
Are you looking for a well rounded literary masterpiece?....if you are don't stop on this book! This book is total erotic (sort of) cheese. I say sort of erotic because, well, if you don't have actual sex for half the book I can't call it erotic...but if you have the kind of sex that involves a man and a man and a man and a woman...well that's not exactly main stream either.
Technically there were a couple of menages...but focus on the word COUPLE...this wasn't an entire book about 3 brothers and one woman, but it got there eventually. The premise was actually kind of good. The oldest brother Cade is now 30, the woman is now 20, but when she was 12 (meaning he was 22) she was brought to his house to live with her step Uncle (Cade's dad) because her abusive step father wanted her in his bed...so the mother fled, YEAH MOM! So, Cade helped raise this girl, cared for this girl, scared away this girls wanna be boyfriends....so how is it now that she is 20 he sees her as a woman, a desirable woman? He fights this for a LONG time (too long in my opinion), but the problem is that since this girl had hormones they have all been pointing at Cade, and she is ready to do something about this.
The lines used in this book were total cheese "I'm going to feast on you like a banquet" was likely the worst...but that IS the type of book I wanted so no complaints here.
It doesn't have a riveting plot, even the suspense scenes were not that suspenseful and it was like in the last hour the author said "oh yeah this is suppose to be an erotic book, I should really do something about that" and so she did!
If you are in the mood for semi-erotic cheese then go for it...if not catch it on sale. I don't think I will be going for the next book in the series....but then again if I'm in a cheesy mood who knows!
"I'm Done with LL - Wildcard/Maverick Are Anomalies"
It seemed like I was listening to a bunch of scenes [perhaps cut from previous work] thrown together. It was confusing. There was no coherent plot - and I don't require much when listening in this genre.
Audible just had a romance sale and there are a few new to me authors/titles I purchased. I also have 'Takedown' by Brad Thor ready, for something more serious and complex.
It was average.
Nope, not one. Books in this category are like candy to me-empty calories that make me feel good-this was like the dentist visit afterwards.
Lora Leigh was the first author I listened to in this genre-Maverick is fantastic, Wildcard was a great followup. After those two I quickly downloaded a few more of Lora Leigh's titles - nothing else has come close - not even in the same zip code, city, state, country, etc.
I want to love more of her books (I have listened to almost all of the books available by LL on Audible*) I think I'm a fair reviewer, maybe I'm bit more critical than when I began, but I don't think that is the case. I think the first two I read are as good as she gets [they were good] and everything else is mediocre, lazy.
Goodbye Lora Leigh...
*I have not read any of her Breeds or Sci-Fi/Fantasy work - these subjects do not interest me.
