Summary

Detective Gabriel Ashby has never looked twice at another man, yet the criminal across from him, the man he's interrogating, isn't like any other. Gabe can't deal with the sudden, intense need he has for one of NYPD's Most Wanted. Everyone close to Angelo Pagan ends up dead, with the smug gang leader standing amid the rubble. Gabe would love nothing more than to bust Angelo's ass and lock him up. So why is he seeing the bastard in his dreams at night? Angelo Pagan knows attraction to Gabe is suicide. He's resolute to ignore the chemistry…until a police raid goes wrong. He critically injures Gabe, changing the trajectory of both their lives. Now the two can't get close enough. They settle into a forbidden affair threatened by lies and betrayal, living on different sides of the law with no way of breaching the gap between them. With the authorities looking to make an example of Angelo, Gabe has to decide if it's really worth it to hate the sin but love the sinner.

Love transcends all

Where does Love the Sinner rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Love the Sinner ranks amongst the most enjoyable books that I have listened to. This is gay "Mills & Boons" at its best!

What other book might you compare Love the Sinner to, and why?

Love the Sinner compares well with such books as, The Way It Is, by A J Thomas. Both involve seemingly impossible relationships between characters from the authorities and those outside the law.

Have you listened to any of Renard Pasquale’s other performances? How does this one compare?

I have read Renard Pasquale's narrations of all four of Avril Ashton's, Brooklyn Sinner, series. He brings all the characters to life with vivid vocal dramatisation, maintaining a high standard throughout.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Unconditional love has never been this hard!

Any additional comments?

Avril Ashton is able to spin a gripping story, filling out the different characters in strong and vivid ways making them believable. This makes the whole series of the Brooklyn Sinner, a memorable read. Highly recommended!

Flawed, but I loved it anyway

When I read a rec for this book I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. I loved the premise of the bad guy and the cop. I wasn't disappointed despite some things grating on me.

I loved the dynamic between the two, the hot sex, how much they loved one another and the backdrop for the story. Some of the side characters were great, Pablo, Kane and Angelo's mother. (I've happily downloaded Pablo and Kane's own stories ready to go.)

Make no mistake, this book is both HOT HOT HOT and it doesn't sugar coat the violence and who Angelo really is. That is a very readable/listenable combination.

Renard Pasquale is the perfect narrator too, the way he does the accents is just right - although Syren's accent is plain weird.

(Spoilers below)
What I didn't like about it was the speed in which it went from first sight to love. I like a bit of build up. Gabe barely blinked before jumping into bed with Angelo the criminal and as a dedicated cop surely there would've at least *some* angst about it first, or at least after they first got it on, but no, it was straight to LOVE. Then Gabe goes bonkers about something that Angelo does, breaks it off, then five minutes later he's being all moody that Angelo made a decision without him when they weren't even together. He wasn't very consistent!
