More than any other writer before or since, Louis L'Amour brought the American West to life. His action-packed stories deal with eternal themes: honor, deceit, passion, betrayal, loyalty, courage, love. His settings are historically accurate, his prose riveting, and his characters colorful: good guys, bad buys, toughs, roughs, sidekicks and saints.
This collection gathers eight popular Louis L'Amour stories performed by a star-studded cast, including Willie Nelson, Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Charles Dean.

"Sometimes a larger-than-life author deserves a larger-than-life narrator. Willie Nelson uses his distinctive Texas drawl and unhurried pace to deliver these tales of Louis L'Amour's Old West with conviction and warmth. Some equally famous friends Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson perform cameos in a well-produced multicast adaptation of 'Riding for the Brand', complete with jingling spurs, war whoops, and gunshots. This collection serves as a fine introduction to L'Amour's work and includes some of his best-known pieces. (AudioFile)

The stories were usually easy to understand and interesting as always. If you read a lot of Louis L'Amour you know that some of the books tend to be repetitious. We enjoyed the stories, and the 'dramatized' stories interesting and well done.
The one big problem my husband and I had with it was the music that would play all of a sudden, in between paragraphs maybe. We'd be listening intently and all of a sudden a guitar was strumming, sometimes louder then the book was being read. Being occasionally louder then the story was a problem, as it could possibly wake our little ones if they were asleep. Both my husband and I found the musical interludes quite annoying, and probably wouldn't have bought it if we had known they were there.
"fun, shoot em up listening"
Easy listening, fun and a great blast from the past. Willie Nelson narrates, but it is obvious that his mind isn't really on the reading aloud, but somewhere else. The stories are short and more along the lines of old radio, rather than on book reading. I enjoyed it, but I was also glad when it ended so I could mosey on.
"great short stories"
This audiobook has some great short stories from Louis L'amour they take you back to the old west.
"Stick to singing"
I love Willie Nelson as a singer but as a narrator he stinks. I couldn't make it through the book.
"Really enjoyed this"
The mix stories and the way they were read and/or performed were very enjoyable. Can't wait to get some more!
The producer of this audio added a lot of background noise and forgot about the story. The narration is lost when you spend an inordinate amount of time listening to such petty sounds as footsteps crossing a room. Yawn. This particular title suffers and the listener suffers too. Not recommended.
"Good, relaxing Western stories"
Being a Western, it's ranking is super.
My reading is varied, so cannot rank it in the mix.
True Western flavor, with a little suspense
His native Texas drawl.
"extra voices, sound effects..."
short review from me...
this was just an entertaining read. Loved the cameos (though they are only in first story) and the sound effects (horses, gunshots, etc) as they make all westerns more fun. I'd listen to another like this!
